Description
Canucks trade OEL, Myers, and Martin all three are serviceable but two of them are overpaid. Trading these players gives them an ability to refresh the defense. The main issue with this trade for the canucks that instead of the money going into the defence all the money is going into the backup who won't make a difference whatsoever in the game and to offset that the canucks get Forsling who ironically was a canuck 5th round draft pick.

Florida trades Bobrovsky,hornqvist,and Forsling
Trading a backup and a ltir player in hornqvist taking about 10 million in cap space is not ideal for a team looking to make the playoffs, this deal helps them allocate that money into their d core which gets slightly worse but in 2 years when Myers is up or you trade him you will have 6 million in savings. That's why to even that out the Panthers trade Forsling which obviously stings but I believe works out for Panthers in the long run.

I expect a harsh reaction to this trade but I'm curious to those who do disagree what they would do to even out this trade for either side?

Makes no sense for Florida. Hornqvist contracts ends this season. Hornqvist has a M NTC and Bob has NMC. They ain't waiving for the Canucks

I can see the NMC being a potential problem but they still save money going forward but let's just assume everyone agrees to waive I personally think it makes sense.

Hornqvist I don’t think can be traded this season since the Cats don’t have the cap space to activate him for a trade, but I could be wrong in that aspect. It’s a genuinely interesting trade, but Florida is definitely getting the short end of the stick. Florida needs cap space the most, and moving Hornqvist off of LTIR would not let this trade work, since the Cats would be over the cap, barring any other move being made to move out cap. That being said, Bob’s NMC is also a problem, and he certainly isn’t waiving for Vancouver, and I have my doubts that OEL waives for Florida. Florida really can’t afford to move Forsling. Value wise, if the Cats were to eat some of Bob’s salary, they could get some positive value for him, but the same isn’t exactly true for OEL. Assuming everyone were to waive their contract clauses, and the cap were to work out, Florida definitely declines, but I am pretty sure Vancouver takes that and runs for the hills.

The only "Take it and run" piece here is Forsling. Otherwise it's a balance of bad contracts that might do more for the opposite team. This idea has appeared quite a few times, and although its fun to fantasize, we all know the NMC situation flattens it.

I'd rather buyout OEL in the offseason or two seasons from now than bring in Bob. It's Demko's net and this is a move that doesn't fit. Another idea is 50% retention and hope somehow bites and OEL waives.
