Next Season Flat Cap

Description
With the injuries to the Ducks blue line I'm thinking that the chances are high the Ducks would rather give up picks/prospects than to lose anyone in expansion or trade a player to another team. Do you think this package of picks is enough to make Vegas not take a key player?

I would love to have Thompson back with us. Also, we need to trade a d-man and get some help up front.

Everyone will be better next year: Montour, Manson, Theodore, Kase, Ritchie, Rakell, Silfverberg.

Buying out Stoner isn't a solution, he can help us on the back end if healthy. Dump Despres and trade Vatanen and get in a top 6 forward who can score and this team might be first in the pacific again.

Nate, you're pretty smart when it comes to hockey knowledge, but from what i have been reading and watching via interviews is that Mcphee says that he won't attack the Ducks much. I'm thinking he takes Kerdiles, and or Eaves. We may have to give them a little bit of compensation but i honestly feel that is overkill. I'm thinking Mcphee is being nice to us since they are close to us, and wants to build a good relationship with Bob Murray in the future.

See I disagree on some of this. The Ducks don't need to trade anyone right now. Thompson isn't bringing anything to the lineup that isn't depicted above. Steel can score and Kapanen can kill penalties/play defense. Stoner buyout was necessary to be under the cap when Lindholm/Vatanen come back. Nobody is going to take Despres unless you give up something significant. I get what you are saying and appreciate the input but I don't think they need to panic as much as people think right now. The core is shifting and is pretty young. Guys like Silfverberg, Rakell, Steel, Montour, Lindholm, Manson, Vatanen, etc. will be able to take over for the older guys soon enough and at that point maybe move one of them for forward help when the exact need is more known.

Interesting. I didn't know Vegas and Murray had talked - at least I haven't seen it yet. I understand I overpaid, but mainly because I figured the Ducks would have to in order to keep the whole team together. I don't think trading a hurt defenseman for forward help is the right thing to do RIGHT NOW. Maybe after the first month or so once they see how some of the internal talent is doing they could go that route and maybe even get more if they move a player closer to coming back form injury. Thanks for the input.

That is where i disagree with you. I think regardless of the expansion draft i think the ducks are trading Vatanen in the next year or 2 years because of the pay raises Manson, Montour, and Theodore will command. Also with Fowler getting an extension and with Bieksa 4 MIL cap hit and Stoner cap hit will fall off. I still think moving Vatanen will help the team get a top6 forward that is direly needed.

You could probably give up about half the assets to ask LV to take a specific player rather then to "not take" players. The rumor is a first to take Staal from NYR. You could ask LV to do something similar with Stoner or Despres.

yeah you could, but at least those players can play. The guys on the Ducks roster probably don't play again
