Unless something changes and they face losing someone because of his contract, then no. But I personally think they end up trading Garland and maybe even Myers (perhaps with retention), which means they should have ample cap space for now.

I'd shop him with retention first and see if you can get anyone to bite. Then if you need the cap space or you're gonna bring in a better LD then you buy him out.

A point on Myers that I don't think people realize is that after his bonus is paid in the offseason he's only owed 1mil so he becomes valuable to a team like Arizona making him pretty movable even without retention

I like Myers on Anaheim, they need a RD and the cap.

RE: OEL - I think he's hated on a bit too much. He's slow and makes the occasional boneheadded play, but in general he really isnt that bad. I believe he needs a better D pair. His best play is when Hughes is out and he jumps into that role. OEL is simply being used wrong. The contract can't be moved and the buyout would kill the team, so may as well make the best of what he does bring which IMO is more than he harms the team.

Scratching a player for 1 game does not mean they are useless.

The OEL buy-out doesn't hurt the team as much as keeping him... Trading Myers is very doable after the paying the bonus. That is the right course of action. Petey new contract kicks in 24-25

It only doesn't hurt the team if we commit to an actual rebuild. This buyout with the peak in the middle pretty much would be a guideline timeline on when a rebuild would occur. However I've seen how dead money has screwed this team up so much and having it on the books for 6+ years is pretty killer.

The upcoming forwards aren't going to cost that much in years 24-25 as long the defense is addressed with 4-5million tops per defensemen and Petey is signed it shouldn't be an issue. Also, this ownership group deserves to have to pay out 19 million for putting us fans through 10 years of BS and using Captain Canuck Trevor Linden as a pawn.
