I understand Zucc has his warts in the playoffs and whatnot, but like every Wild pundit has said - they'd be crazy to trade away 97's buddy and linemate at this point. Not to mention there's a decent chance his M-NTC includes Edmonton.

Id do the Greenway deal, but I doubt the Sabres would. They like him for whatever reason.

It’s a point to consider, no doubt…but in the long run, Boldy will help Kaprizov forget all about Zuccrello! Plus, I won’t have to watch him turn pucks over by both blue lines 6-7 times a game!

I thought Greenway was untouchable? Last time I suggested a trade involving Greenway, Wild fans bit off my head basically saying he makes the best 3rd line in the league and they chose Greenway over Fiala lol

Because you do?

Sorry but it's fact, Guerin valued the best shutdown line in hockey last year, combined with the teams depth, and the cap space necessary to keep it's RFA's (namely Boldy) over one player.

Boo hoo.

Bassman, I think it’s time to get off the Zucc trade life. The last thing this team can give up is a ppg guy at a reasonable cap hit.

I’m not going so far as to say Greenway is untouchable but you’re spot on that it played a part in the Fiala decision. Which as much as I hate it, it was the right one.

I wouldn't say he's untouchable either. But close enough to it that it matters.

Frankly, Greenway's greatest value stems from his being a key cog on that line. To the point the team will likely overvalue him because of it. Anyone who wants him would have to severely overpay for us to consider it, which is likely not worth it.

Moving and breaking up 1/3 of the best shutdown line in hockey last year and which currently ranks in the top 5 shutdown lines THIS year is pretty prohibitive, especially when trying to be competitive.

All good points. I just don’t see this team really making a dent in the playoffs until that Ek line is a true offensive threat, which it currently isn’t. Greenway and Foligno are 30-40 pt players and that’s just not good enough.

That line is great for our current team since the strategy is to minimize goals against to give our offense a shot to win the game. It works in the regular season but that doesn’t work in the playoffs because the margins are so small when you play that way. You have to cave the other team and we aren’t doing that.

The way you value him depends on how you think they need to play.

Last year…
Foligno has lost a step. Greenway has no idea what he’s doing out there a out half the time, nor does he play physical enough THIS year to make up for all the holes in his game…plus, he’s missing team meetings and showing up late now. Punt him for distance and taking his contract should (almost) be compensation enough. Cancer always starts out slowly…

I know it’s a pipe dream…and unpopular opinion, but he’s a 1/3 - 1/2 a point per game guy without Kaprizov and a crappy player everywhere but in the offensive zone, tops of the circles in! He was the biggest reason the Rangers dominated the 2nd period last night!
Boldy is already a much better player and he will end up a much better linemate for Kaprizov because he actually plays defense and that will allow Kaprizov to do even more.

Thanks for letting me vent!

There’s some Sabres fans who might be cool with that- SOME

Highly doubt the Sabres would in real life though
Mitts is gonna get around 50pts on the 3rd line for us
That’s valued

Would you trade Zuccarello if it meant the Wild could sign Horvat long-term?

IF that we’re the calculus, yes. I’m less inclined to say yes when we factor in the cost of getting him.

If you include Zucc, I think this team is 2 top 6 Cs away and at least 1 more top 6 W. I also think the Ek line needs to have guys like Hartman/Beckman/Walker in order to be a real contender, the reason they’re a one and done in the playoffs isn’t because of size or “grit.” It’s because they can’t score. I think we’re closer to the lottery than the cup.

Ceci > Dumba, and I'm not sure why Edmonton would want Zuccarello with Kane returning soon. Besides, they simply don't have the cap space.

I vehemently disagree with your first statement!

Zuccarello might be able to help with the crappy team chemistry I keep reading about…

Dumba is a Tyson Barrie-esque player, they don't need another offensive defenseman. Ceci plays 1st pairing reasonably well and is far better defensively than Dumba. So that makes no sense.

Zuccarello is $4.5M, they just can't afford that with Kane coming off LTIR in the next 7-10 days. Even if they could, it kills next year's cap too. And at 35, is he really worth a mid-1st in a very deep draft?
