I like Hronek but is his value really that high right now? I don’t think that’s a price we’d be willing to pay.

Detroit declines all of these.

1. We have no replacement for Hronek. Edvinsson is a LD not a RD.
2. You can't retain for only part of a contract and wasting a retention slot on a player as cheap as Kubalík is plain dumb.
3. You're giving Bert away for less than half of his worth to Detroit.
4. Määttä will easily get a 2nd at the deadline.

Kubalik isn't a good fit for the Leafs. I doubt they'd be targetting him regardless of the price or cap hit.

laugh laugh If we trade Hronek, It will be for a package deal in Bo Horvat not picks.

If you retain 50% on Kubalik it has to be for both this year and next, You can't retain it for one year only.

Puljujarvi and a 2023 1st round pick isn't enough for both Bertuzzi at 50% retained and Sundqvist it's a lousy offer.

And Olli Maatta is easily worth a 2nd round pick. He's on pace for a 33 point season by far his best.

Edvinsson will be top 4 d ,i cant see a edvinsson hronek pairing working out as both will wanna play the offense. Unless we’re planning on making him a 3rd pairing dman i cant see hronek being here longterm as much as i like him. Might as well deal him when hes hot. As for the replacement thats what a trade elsewhere is for, off season ..... trying out chiarot as a right dman who i know played the position before

Wasnt aware. And whys it dumb? He likely wont be retained if he keeps playing at a 60 pt season next season as well and paying 1.250.000 isnt much on the cap and we have a bunch of cheap contracts in veleno, berggren, soderblom possibly kasper that we can afford to pay that money for a 1st. And if im the leafs who dont have much cap space why wouldnt i pay 1.25 on a 55-60 pt top 6 guy

Iove bert but if he wants a longterm deal he wont get it here after all the time hes missed and with that teams wont go crazy and add a top prospect + on top of a 1st... maybe if its a sign and trade you can fetch more

Hope so for maata, think 3rd might be more realistic but we’ll see

Lmfao bo horvat , forget that pipe dream not happening

Bert has missed a ton of games and nowhere near where we know he can be , atm hes not fetching a 1st + top prospect unless its a sign and trade

Detroit passes on all the trades except the Kubalik one.

We’re not giving away Hronek for a single late first round pick. Edvinsson coming up next year literally has nothing to do with Hronek’s status at all. We’re short on impactful RHD and if we’re moving him, we need to get one in return like Topi Niemela or someone like that PLUS a 1st round pick.

If we can get literally anything for Kubalik, I’ll be ecstatic. The problem is, the rest of the coaches and GM’s in the league knows how bad of a hockey player he is.

All these people trying to hold on to retention spots is getting out of control. If we can parlay a one dimensional hockey player that doesn’t play one iota of defense or forecheck and literally is only serviceable on the power play for a 1st round pick, with a little retention to seal the deal, then we do it 12/10 times.

Bertuzzi & Sunqvist each will bring in a package of picks - a single 1st round pick and an expensive bust doesn’t come close to cutting it.

Maatta will get much more than a 3rd rounder.

Retaining on Kubalík is dumb because you're only allowed to have three retentions at any one time and we've already used one (Pánik). Using a second retention slot (for two years) for a measly $1 million when we have 11 players on expiring contracts where that retention slot would give a massively better return is really bad management.

Trading Hronek is dumb because whe'd be forced to run with Seider as the only good RD on the team. We have nothing to replace Hronek with for at least another five years, the only RD's in the system is Barton, Tuomisto, and Anton Johansson. This team would be sent back to the stone age for the rest of Larkins reign if this was done.
