Random question, but does anybody know if the new lottery rules - specifically that which prevents teams from winning the lottery more than twice in a 5 year span - apply only for that teams original selection? Like if MTL won a draft lottery via Florida's pick, could they win a lottery again in the next 3 years, or no?

I believe that they are for the original team. I think i saw something about MTL being able to technically win 1 and say 3 this year and being allowed to do so or something like that.

Per an ESPN article written in May 2022: “Limits on lottery wins. Beginning this season, no team will be able to move up the draft board by winning a lottery more than two times in a five-year period.” Montreal did not move up last year which means they are at 0/2 allowed

Edit: I know it’s not exactly the answer to your question but this means Montreal even if Florida’s pick counted as their own could win the lottery twice

That's a whole other aspect - was just using MTL as an easy example. However, that's ridiculous if that's how it works. So you can pick 1st limitlessly so long as you finish last?

Sure, but it only takes one last place finish to throw a wrench into the whole point of the thing. Unlikely though it is we'll see anything crazy come to fruition, the fact that it allows for it is stupid. A lottery win is a lottery win, regardless if you were last place or not.

And conversely, does this mean that if a team miraculously moved up from 16 to 6 twice in four years, they'd be ineligible to win a lottery in year five if they finished 3rd last? That's absurd.

Hayes has Term. Thats the difference. Hayes at 5M for 3Years is a good get for Building a team thats well cap structured.

Retention means very little for Horvat given he's a pending UFA, and can walk at FA.

If Horvat and another team are willing to agree to an extension before a trade Canucks are gonna get more, But I doubt that because Horvats ask is just too high imo.
