Holy abject delusions, Wheeler at the Athletic is actually pretending that Toronto has the 18th best prospect pool in the league. How embarrassing.

maybe Knies alone put the Leafs above other prospect pools, but 13 of them? Weird.

Probably 26 or 27. Having them above teams like Calgary and the Rangers is just clowning.

Nikita Grebyonkin leads all U20 players in the KHL.

Ty Voit leads the OHL in scoring.

Artur Akhtyamov leads the VHL in sv% and 2nd in wins.

Nick Abruzzese is tied for rookie scoring in the AHL.

Now you add in Knies, Niemela, Hirvonen, Moldenhauer, Hirvonen, Tveberg, Peska, Hildeby, Lisowsky, Miller, Ovchinnikov

Not to mention:
4 of their top 5 point scorers are 23 years old or younger in the AHL.
5 of their 6 most played (GP) d-men are 23 or younger in the AHL.

Seems like a middle of the pack prospect pool to me.

But rank them at 26 if you want, doesn’t change anything for me

Heh. Should I do a list of players who scored a lot in juniors and college, then did squat nothing in the NHL? As a pool, it is slooow and smaaaaaallll. There's some genuine hockey midgets in this group, and most of them are average skaters at best. A whole lot of wishin' and hopin' here. The guy has them two spots below Calgary, who have several bonafide A prospects. It's a joke.

Lmfao are you slow?

That’s what prospect rankings are. Who knows if any of these guys will hit but right now in their perspective leagues, they are performing well. Hence their rankings lol

Yeeeeah, that's not how it works. It's not all about who is shining in juniors. It's about who has the tools to succeed in the NHL. D-men who are 155 pounds and average skaters are major longshots - even at the AHL level. Centers who weigh 160 pounds and are weak skaters don't get anywhere in the NHL. History is littered with volumes of evidence for this. And also for wildly overvaluing bad Leafs prospects (Jeremy Bracco is gonna be an all-star!!). Wheeler knows where both his career and the Athletic's hockey bread are buttered.

Yes, the New York Times are definitely holding The Athletic's hockey department at gunpoint forcing them to fluff the Leafs for the sake of revenue.

yeah that would be pretty cool, but I think they could use a winger more, since they already have 3 good centers (Giroux, Norris, Stuzle) so I think they could use a winger like Sale.

Just heard the news about Norris. Pure talent. I hope he makes a full recovery in time for next season. He wasn't rushed back. He probably should've just had the surgery back in October. But it's easy to say that now.

Heh. Have you not seen how the NYT has run the site so far? Suggesting they'd do something stupid for clicks and engagement is faaaar close to "DUH!" than it is to unrealistic.

Big 10 leaders
Game Winning goals - Knies (5) 1st
Short handed goals - Knies (2) 1st
Goals - Knies (15) 1st
Points - Knies (27) 4th
Power Play goals - Knies (6) 1st
Goals per game - Knies (.58) 2nd
Points per game - Knies (1.04) 4th

Seems pretty solid 🤷‍♂️

I feel like centres can always move to wing .
