Dvorak with 2 years as an overpaid 3/4C and Edmundson as an LHD have no value to Winnipeg. Beck is okay, but along with a first 3 drafts from now is a laughable offer for a 24 year old 1C.

This is another "Montreal gives up worthless pieces and comes away with star players" ACGM.

How would he walk for nothing? He's an RFA.

Why would Winnipeg accept less than Chiarot got as a pure rental for a full year of a young 1C? Especially when they easily get a better offer than this at next year's TDL?

Trade would happen next summer, and that pick is a 2024 1st top 20 protected, so it's only 1 year from when the trade happen.

Since every teams knows that star player won't extend long term with anyone but MTL, i'd say a 2024 1st and an A prospect will be the best offer Winnipeg get.

Can't wait for Horvat to be traded to establish Dubois value.

He may or may not be, but next summer he's still an RFA. So, explain how exactly will PLD walk for nothing?

I see, you're relying on false assumptions to try and lower the value. Your realize that reality says there is little to no chance he ends up in Montreal. They just won't have the cap space or amenities to be the top bidder for him when he can choose anywhere.

Horvat's value would help, as Dubois will be worth that plus.

There is simply no reason that Winnipeg will have to accept an offer that is less than what Dubois would get at the TDL next year, like this offer. It just isn't realistic and there is no logical reasoning to back that up.

If you want, i can find an article about Kent Hughes and Pat Brisson saying Dubois wants to play for MTL. Why would his agent only mention MTL?

MTL will have 25M cap space next summer, with Caufield and Harris to sign. I think there's enough left to sign Dubois.

MTL have one of the best prospect pool in the league, they'd have enough to trade for Dubois 3 times.

Not sure why Dubois would be worth more than Horvat as a rental. A mid 1st, or a late 1st + an A prospect should be enough for both.

And taking on Gallagher at 6.5 for the next 5 years to fill the fourth line is how we save cap?

Dubois is worth more, because he is an RFA as opposed to a UFA, is younger and is better. A full year and a playoff run of Dubois is worth more than a single playoff run of Horvat. You may not want to admit that, but it's reality.

Can't trade Dubois right away after signing him 1 year, so Winnipeg will have 3 options next summer :

1. Sign him 1 year and trade him after January 1st as a rental. He would be worth as much as Horvat if he's having a good season.

2. Trade him to MTL where he sign an 8 years extention.

3. Sign him one year, hope he extend with Winnipeg and watch him pull a Tavares.

I'm sure the best offer will be from MTL. Could even be at the draft if Winnipeg doesn't like what Vancouver get for Horvat.

Edit : He could be traded and extended 1 year with his new team. But that team need to have enough cap space for a full year. Not sure that's worth more than a rental.

You forgot the most likely option by far if he doesn't extend in Winnipeg.

The Jets will let his agent talk to the teams where he is willing to extend long term and take the best offer from one of those competing teams.

The Jets did well in the Trouba trade and he was only willing to go to the Rangers. So, with PLD being a more valuable player than Trouba was at the time and with him looking for the most money available and so far not limiting his options to one team, the Jets should be alright.

Cap space won't be a problem in the off season.

Just looked at both players, not sure PLD would be worth a lot more. Trouba was a very good player too back then, and both are playing the two most wanted positions.

Trouba deal would be a good comparison if Dubois only wants to extend with MTL. I really think something around top 15 FLO 2023 1st could be done next summer.

I agree his value would be higher if he have more teams he would extend with.

Yeah a deal around Florida's first could work, but there would still need to be an add to that. All dependant on the add and where the pick actually is.

I agree, Trouba was very valuable as well, but a young 1C is the rarest position in hockey, even more than top pairing RHD, at least according to the hockey experts.
