Kane and Xhekaj to NYR

Description
My thought process is Kane is worth two 1st at trade deadline and Lafreniere value is a little higher than Dach was.

NYR trade Lafreniere instead of two 1st, they get Kane 75% retained and Xhekaj. Kane extend on a friendly deal, 3 years under 6M.

Chicago get a 2023 potential lottery winning top 15 pick. They love top 15 picks and probably don't want Lafreniere anyway.

MTL is overpaying and taking a huge risk in trading the FLO 2023 1st, but Lafreniere could be better than Dach in MTL.

No this is not something that makes sense for Montreal the risk of Laf not working out and the pick winning the lottery far out weighs Laf maybe breaking out. Rags fans have been saying for 3 years Laf is about to break out, this seems like a Drouin type of move all over again. The definition of insanity according to Einstein is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. This is insane, trade Sergachev (what we needed) for Drouin because he had potential to be a good center, now you want to trade what we need (high draft picks) for potential again. I am just going to shake my head at that.

This is way too much for Laffy. I would do Xhekaj ++ but I wouldn't add a 1st. Risk is too high at 21.

LMAO an unprotected top 10 pick in the deepest draft since 2015 and a solid D man who is leading all rookie D men in goals and has potential to be a 2nd pairing guy. Montreal isn't even offering that!!!

This is a really cool trade. I gotta give u credit on the creativity. NYR gets infinitely better. MTL gets a lottery superstar. Chicago gets a would-be lottery pick.

With all that being said, I think Chicago needs more coming back in the deal. Maybe NYR adds a 2nd? MTL adds a 3rd or 4th ?

I know, French bust wink

To be honest I rather trade him for a Q Byfield which is the pick they should have gone for but didn't. LAK are pretty stocked on center position so that might work?

If to go that path, I mean smile

Terrible trade for Montreal.

They lose the young offense and toughness on the back end, lose a Florida 1st rd pick which has a possibility of being a top 15 pick in a deep draft, and is unprotected (small odds at moving up)

In exchange they get an under-performing RW to a position that is contractually stacked with Dach, Gallagher, Anderson and Armia for the next several years, and of which, Laf is likely not beating out the first 3 to get top 3 line minutes.

First, i love that fans from many teams are saying this trade favors a different team. Probably shows that this trade is close to be fair for the three teams.

Could be a better Dach. Lafreniere have a higher ceiling.

Thanks for the nice comment. From my point of view, Chicago win the trade because they get a would-be lottery pick. That's better than two late 1st, the rumored asked price.

Could see MTL adding a 2nd conditionnal on Panthers making the playoffs. Guarantees no one gets scammed.

WPG fans wouldn't take a 1st from MTL unless we paid them to do so... no point in arguing with them.

I would 100% trade Mittlestadt the, 23 first without batting an eye. But if adding a prospect I'd want Kane to stick around for a few years, which may be hard to convince him to stay when he's on the 3rd line. Most Sabres fans don't want to give up anything for him too, and wait til free agency if anything, which would be GMKA's MO. So I think Buffalo is not a team that would be bidding.

In this deep of a draft I believe two late 1st's over one mid first, maybe others disagree with me

I believe two late 1st must be worth close to a mid 1st, given that AZ gave a late 1st and two 2nd last draft for 11OA.

But with all the elite talent on the top 10 in 2023, a shot at winning the lottery is worth more this draft than any others.

Drouin was playing top 6 with good players in Tampa. Lafreniere was never given a real shot at top 6.

I agree it's a risk, but his ceiling is way higher than Drouin or Dach. Could still become a 30-40 goal scorer.
