Been the same player for 15 years and was still the engine of 3 cups, as well as multiple heart trophies, etc. Not 100% what he once was but still a very high end top 6 player. Teams will pay up, it's up to Kane as to where he wants to go or if he wants to go at all

While in his prime helped drive for 3 cups.. he ain’t the same guy. Last year was a good year to move Kane. Players get healthy scratched all the time.. PLD was many times, Laine, and both of those guys were already established top line players. Kids developing, well some just need to get benched to light a fire. I think most people believe he was supposed to live up to a McD/AM34 type of hype.. that draft class wasn’t the same. He’s more like a Huberdeau and if you look, the only difference is PP time/TOI/Linemates. Not concerned about Laf long term. He’s still developing and needs proper playing time

I’m not saying he did. I’m saying people on here make the mistake of thinking this. They have this expectation that the #1OA is this ungodly type player. Even NYR fans claimed he was generational talent material before playing a game. He would have been lucky to be top 5 in most other years. No one is OS him so there’s no need to trade him. Toss in the additional pick if necessary. I would imagine both Kane and Toews decide the destination like Hall did.

Well, I never said they should. But, for the sake of argument, Laf WAS a 1st overall pick, but he hasn't once played like a 1st overall pick is expected to play. He isn't worth the title of being called a 1st overall at this point, it's called depreciation. Being only 21 and having that 1st overall pedigree might make him worth the gamble of seeing if he can still become more in the NHL, but a gamble is still a gamble. Regardless, all 1st overall picks are not created equal. IMO, all of this speculation is WAAAY overblown. Laf is still a valuable young player, but he is not worth anything even remotely close to Connor Bedard, and I would rather pick and develop Fantilli/Carlsson/Michkov/Cristall/Dvorsky/etc. than gamble on Laf.

Laf is not valued as a 1st overall pick anymore. Kakko is not valued as a 2nd overall pick any more.

Giroux was only willing to go to one team and still got a 1st + Tippett who was a (struggling) but recent top 15 pick as well. If Giroux can get that, and Kane is better than Giroux, why can't Kane get in the ballpark of 2 1st's in value?

I know everyone out there is trying to spin this narrative that "kane is old" and/or "washed up" or whatever, but literally all you need to do is consider the roster he is playing with to realize it's a miracle he has even played as well as he has. It has nothing to do with age. Kane is going to continue to play and create tons of offense into his 40's. People who cite his defensive metrics are just blowing hot air, offense is the only reason you go out and get a player like him. You put him on a good playoff team that is already defensively sound and wants to bolster their scoring while adding a boat load of experience, and he is probably the most sure thing available at this years TDL with minimal commitment (if he decides he wants a trade).

Also, it happens every TDL. In fact, it just happened last year with Giroux, who isn't as valuable as Patrick Kane. You could argue that Giroux is playing much better than Kane this season, but I'd wager that if Kane were in Giroux's situation, not only playing with Cat but also all the other mass of talent OTT has up front, the results would be better than what we've seen from Giroux. I'd even wager that Cat would be having a better season playing with Kane. Conversely, I'd argue that Giroux would be having a MUCH worse season in CHI than what Kane is currently having. All of that is speculative, but it is definitely worth considering. Other teams are worried about how Kane (or any given player) will project to their own roster, not the roster they are already on. They also understand the limitations of CHI's current roster and that it was quite literally designed to fail.
