If he isn’t signing an extension wouldn’t make sense to trade him?

Judging from what Elliotte Friedman said about the canucks not wanting to tear it down and rebuild, and Pierre LeBrun reporting that they would seek a “hockey deal” rather than a return heavy with draft picks and promising players, I just don't see how a Horvat trade to the Leafs would make any sense. Especially if the Canucks do start to play better. Trading Horvat makes this team a lot worse but if he continues to play like this he'll price himself out of Vancouver which means exceeding the JT Miller deal.

Fills a need in organization. They don’t have any RHD prospect’s upcoming. Niemela is one the best RHD prospects in the NHL even with a down season.

NSH declines. They’d rather keep Jeannot + Trenin at that price. At last years draft, Poile hinted at being extremely interested in 2023 picks, so to make a trade work you’d probably have to give up one of those

Niemela and a 1st may be the starting point but the Canucks would need at least another good young center or roster player to make the deal close. And Robertson, Hirvonen, Kerfoot, Hollowell, Engvall or any combination of them hold almost no value for the Canucks.

Trevin and Jeannot certainly aren't worth that. Engvall is better than both of them. Robertson and first is far too big a premium to pay.
Don't know why Leaf fans obsess with Horvat just to put on left wing.

Van seeks a better offer elsewhere. A late first and a tiny Dman don't meet their needs.

He isn’t even undersized…

The modern dman needs to be able to move the puck and defend the rush which Niemela does. The hulking can’t skate dman days are over.

5'11 170lbs is undersized. You can have one of those guys, sure. But the Canucks already have Hughes and need a stay at home guy who can hit and stand up for him. Canucks don't need little skill guys. Have plenty.

…you do realize all the successful teams are all built on puck movement. Look at your stay at home guys like OEL, Myers, Poolman. They all are terrible because they can’t move the puck or skate for the life of them.

... Clearly don't know any of those players. Poolman has not played. Myers is known for impressive skating for a man his size and decent hands. OEL has spent most of his career as a #1 defenseman and even at this point is far better known as a playmaker than a shutdown guy. Try to know something before you speak, it comes off better.

Never said Canucks don't want puck movers. Just said they dont want two undersized ones in the top 6.

I agree.
As a Van fan, if we deal Bo, I hope it’s a package similar to this - a top RHD prospect and a ‘23 first. Topi is a bit undersized for my liking, bc I envision the returning RHD as a partner for Hughes. But who knows. I think this is a fair deal.
