Description
Current Record: 15-15-3
6 points behind Calgary who currently is in the 2nd WC spot
There are 3 teams in between Calgary and Vancouver (EDM, STL, NSH)
Only 9 regulation wins
a -15 Goal Difference
A terrible PK
PP has been alright but they can look terrible on the PP
I thought the Canucks would finish 3rd in the Pacific before the season started with 96 points. They are on track for like 80ish points.
My projected Top 10 point producers:
1. JT Miller 80GP-28G-58A-86P 1.08 point per game
2. Elias Pettersson 80GP-36G-46A-82P 1.03 point per game
3. Quinn Hughes 80GP-10G-66A-76P 0.95 point per game
4. Connor Garland 78GP-24G-35A-59P 0.76 point per game
5. Bo Horvat 76GP-35G-21A-56P 0.74 point per game
6. Brock Boeser 70GP-26G-28A-54P 0.77 point per game
7. Ilya Mikheyev 80GP-25G-21A-46P 0.58 point per game
8. Tanner Pearson 82GP-16G-24A-40P 0.49 point per game
9. Vasily Podkolzin 82GP-21G-16A-37P 0.45 point per game
10. Andrei Kuzmenko 74GP-15G-20A-35P 0.47 point per game
Current Top 10 point producers:
1. Elias Pettersson 31GP-15G-26A-41P (He has been excellent and had a chance to hit 100 points)
2. Bo Horvat 33GP-24G-11A-35P (He's on track to demolish his career high in goals and points. Is it a coincidence that it is a contract year?)
3. JT Miller 33GP-13G-17A-30P (Obviously he wasn't going to score 99 points again and 30 points in 33 games isn't that bad, but Miller has made tons of questionable plays this season and the contract is already looking iffy and we aren't even in year 1)
4. Andrei Kuzmenko 32GP-14G-15A-29P (He's been far better than I expected. He should hit 30 goals and 60 points.)
5. Quinn Hughes 29GP-0G-28A-28P (Quinn Hughes score a goal challenge: impossible)
6. Ilya Mikheyev 30GP-11G-7A-18P (Scoring at aroujnd the same rate that I expected. On track for around 25 goals and 45 points)
7. Brock Boeser 25GP-5G-12A-17P (Boeser only has 5 goals so far and 3 were PP goals. He's looked terrible 5 on 5)
8. Conor Garland 32GP-5G-11A-16P (This guy can't finish and has also looked bad at times)
9. OEL 33GP-1G-14A-15P (He's been mediocre at best)
10. Luke Schenn 33GP-2G-7A-11P (He's been alright, but if Luke Schenn is 10th in points on your team, you have a problem)
I thought this team would make the playoffs because the forward group got better. The blueline is questionable but they were Top 10 in goals allowed last season. I thought they could finish 12th-15th in goals allowed and make the playoffs. Demko and Martin have been terrible. Demko's out and he won't be back til sometime in January probably. Martin's numbers have been garbage after Demko got hurt. Delia had that one good game on Friday. I think Bruce should ride with Delia has the starter til Martin gets back. Delia still has more NHL experience.

I wouldn't count out anyone in this division. Vegas went from 1st to out of the playoffs in Feb last year. The Kings are 2nd with a -6 goal differential. It's annoying that Minnesota is doing that well with all that dead cap space. McDavid and Draisitil will likely drag Edmonton in to it. Calgary can't score.

It's the wild freaking west.

Pacific division has been very weak so if the other teams besides the Canucks have problems, they should get in without anymore injuries etc.

If things dont go well for them, I agree this season is a wash.

OP what I think you mean to say, is even if everything goes well, we're still gonna be a bubble team. And that's alot of if's, but's and however's that have to fall the Canucks way.

Personally, I believe the best thing is to start shipping out these dead contracts (Myers, Boeser, Garland, Poolman and even Demko). The roster is crunched in cap space thanks to all these mediocre contracts. These players are still decent and might do well on the right team, just not in Vancouver.

The season has been plagued in mediocrity and I don't see how shipping the aforementioned contracts will even make the roster that much worse. We probly won't get a top 3 pick, but that's okay. Shed cap space between now and the off-season so there's cap space for future moves. Dumba would be a nice upgrade on Myers even if the rest of the D core remains the same.

Time to stockpile futures and cap space. Build on smart contract signings, even 1 year deals on players that can be moved at deadline for futures. Slow and steady wins the race. We should build around Petterson, Hughes and Miller. Our best assets outside Horvat, who Canucks should deal for futures. 8 million+ is too expensive for a player whose only had an elite year in his contract season. Miller had point per game seasons prior to scoring 99 points and was the backbone with Petterson and Hughes, not Horvat.

With a little luck, in a few years we'll have a bunch of low cost, young players surrounding Petterson, Hughes and Miller. At least salary cap space to sign the best players and compete in the playoffs.

Might as well trade Pettersson, Quinny and Demko too.

Very much agree.

I don't know how Minnesota is doing it, outside of Kaprizov and Boldy there isn't much to that lineup.

In such a weak bipolar division all it takes is a six game skid for a team like LA or Calgary to fall out of the playoffs. It’s still early in the season with over half of it left to play. We found ourselves in the exact same place last year, maybe this time we get it done. I think that the best thing we can do at this point is try our hand at a few more Bear like trades. I think Cal Foote or Emil Bemstrom would be great targets for cheap late draft picks. I think trading Garland and Pearson would make room for some of our signings in the off-season which would have to include a top 4 LHD like Graves. We should 100% target a RHD at the draft like Dragecevic or Reinbacher who I think is a stud.

I could see Vegas not finishing 1st in the Pacific, but I think they won't miss the playoffs like last year (Bruce Cassidy is better than Peter Deboer). Seattle has been surprisingly good and the chances of them making the playoffs are still quite high. It's very likely 5 Central teams make the playoffs this year. Calgary should get their act together. Will the Canucks be able to play well enough to leapfrog teams that could be on losing skids? Can they take advantage when LA or Calgary go on a losing skid?

Vegas was out of it because of injuries, probably not happening again but it might happen to Colorado.

Well, Zucchini and Flower are pretty good too, they've actually got a decent team but I don't think they should be as good as they are. On the flip side, the Flames should not be as frustratingly bad as they are. Gotta love hockey, organized chaos.
