WPG
  1. Reimer, James (1 125 000 $ retained)
  2. Choix de 5e ronde en 2024 (COL)
Détails additionnels:
Reimer would be a major upgrade over Rittich. Helley COULD play 60+ regular season games but I don't think the Jets should bank on that. You need a cup run, not a presidents trophy. Reimer helps lighten Helleys load down the stretch and gets the Jets a quality back/ 1B starter.

  3. Peterka, John-Jason
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2023 (BUF)
  5. Choix de 4e ronde en 2023 (BUF)
Détails additionnels:
Picks probably what, 10-18? maybe higher since this would be a mid season acquisition for Buffalo. I think you can't deny JJP, 1st; JJP seems like a no brainer for SJS to ask for to put with Eklund and Bordeleau.

Idk how to finish the trade, ask SJS to take on Bishop since Buffalo will be spending more actual cash. I also see 0% of an opening for Ryan Johnson in Buffalo with how log jammed their future on D could be.
BUF
  1. Meier, Timo
Détails additionnels:
I think the Sabres are in GO mode. They knew what they had in Tage, and yet he looks like a league wide franchise center now with little up for discussion. The Bills are also in go mode.. the city of Buffalo now more than ever should be looking to be champs.

I don't want to knock the Sabres lineup, but bringing in a player like Meier makes that offence look playoff ready.

Skinner - Tage - Tuch
Meier - Cozens - Quinn
Jost - Krebs/ CM - CM/ Krebs/ new piece (I assume the Sabres wanna move Olof)

Meier COMES with an extension. I'd expect 8.8-9.5 x 7-8 years maybe 6 if hes really bold to bet on himself but I think hes going for term.

How is that even possible lol? Who else can Buffalo afford to move? Quinn, lol no, Cozens and Savoie are untouchable. Cant touch any D pieces. Olof is not valuable to a tanking team. Be realistic here. Y'all are not moving Levi.

JJP is already a solidified roster player and doing pretty well on the sabres second line with cozens and Quinn. They gave so many prospects to choose from, but also Meier and his new extension more than likely wouldn't be worth it for buffalo

It always astounds me that fans who can win within the next 2-5 seasons would somehow rather a prospect than a league wide top winger. JJP would be extremely unlikely to turn into anything close to what Meiers achieved (different players but I'm talking talent wise/ league wide value).

You want a prospects whos likely a mid6 over a 1W?

Sabres are winning right now with the current lineup of young players that keep getting better lmao. If the salary cap didn't exist, sure, but it does and they eventually have to pay their own youth that's paying very well.

have you seen the Sabres current cap structure? They should not be stressing after they Cozens. They have a ton of money coming off the books if Olof is gone, Bishop is gone (hes not considered LTIR per CF), Okposo. The Sabres are set up to win like you said and only get better.... so why would you not want a league wide 26yo 1st line winger PPG power forward..

Johnson is for sure but hes not very valuable as the Sabres almost HAVE to trade him.. he can be a free agent soon and he has no spot in BUF. The other 3 bring little to the table. Im not saying theyre bad, but paired with the Johnson situation I'm pretty certain you'd be losing a trade to not look for an actual player (like JJP).

Definitely think you should pay more attention to JJP, but I think you already know that he's more than just a "mid6" otherwise you wouldn't be trying to trade for him.

2nd line forward, apologies - what I meant in mid6 was, he's likely not a 1st line player 70-80 pt guy ever. We can't really compare the SJS lineup to the Sabres so him being with Eklund and Hertl means nothing when we have Bonino playing top6 sometimes lol.

I'd be perfectly happy if JJP was a better Barabanov with 50-60 points when hes 25.

Cant complain if he was the return but I see the Sharks staff looking at Hertl - Bordeleau - Bystedt as their 3 centers. Having a luxury of C is never bad so I guess I can eat it here but if the Sharks can somehow get Bedard or Fantilli thats little room for being confident you can crack the Sharks center core.

Johnson and portillo can both walk. The difference is, because johnson was a first round pick, the Sabres get a second round compensatory pick if he walks.

Cozens, Quinn, JJP if he keeps playing well with the other two, power, dahlin will all need raises. Joker will most likely need a contract. Okposo will still be with the team on a new contract most likely. Will have to keep room for goalies. Already have tage and Jeff.

Timo has never been a ppg forward?????

Yeah but as a gm (SJS) you should leverage that and take one of them to make a smoother process. Not many teams would be happy just letting a player walk, as a first rounder. Yeah you get comp but its more about the process/ what happened and essentially wasting and restarting. Not saying Johnson is seen as garbage here, I'm valuing him as a second, not as the first.

Maybe. As first year AHL players, JJP had better year than Meier had. He's currently pacing a better first year in the NHL than Meier had. I don't know how you can say with full confidence that he'll never even come close to him. Meier is the better player, but it's also isn't a stretch to think that JJP becomes 80/85% of what Meier is producing at 1/2 the hit and keeping the other pieces.

These are all maybes, which is exactly my point....

Why would the Sabres not see themselves as primed to make noise? They can make WC this year, I'd honestly not be surprised if they pushed to a G7 or actually won 1 round. Then next year if they can get a starter full time that matches their timeline; why should the Sabres not seem themselves as a "win now".

Tage, Dahlin, Meier, Cozens, Power, Savoie sounds a lot better to me like a core that can go all in. Their supporting cast is nothing to scoff at. All young and entering primes or starting potentially special careers. Not knocking LA, OTT, or DET but Buffalo is easily my pick out of the 4 recently rebuilt squads.

Because they're the youngest team in the league with Craig Anderson and Kyle Okposo being old AF. Pushing to jump start the rebuild has what's kept them down and rebuilding for 11+ years. You can say that going after the wrong pieces was the problem, but what makes Meier the right piece? And one that takes 2 promising young players in the first rounder and JJP. And the only maybe is how high JJP ceiling actually is. PPG AHL player at 19, with a so far smooth transition into the NHL isn't something teams generally trade very often. In a vacuum, I'm not even saying the value is off, because it probably isn't for what Meier is. Buffalo isn't one piece from doing what you are suggesting they do. Maybe in 2/3 years they can go after a big fish, right now they should just stay the course, IMO of course.

If Buffalo is trading for Meier with an extension, it only makes sense for them if they are upgrading on Olofsson and not Peterka. Doesn't make much sense to disrupt the chemistry of the Cozens and still keeping Oloffson as well. For the value, tsome other guy listed by Csick below could be included. If it has to be Peterka, then the benefit should be that they are giving up less.

Not sure it would be wise to acquire another player that will cost 9ish mil when we have many of our best young players needing contracts in the next season or two. Peterka I wouldn't move, even for a player like Meier. Main reason is he's making a big impact in our NHL roster right now and I wouldn't want to subtract such an important player from the current roster. I'd much rather deal Savoie.

They both could, but we don't know. No signs were made either side.
Johnson would be 62th pick for Sabres is he walks.
