Description
The Panthers have been shopping around Duclair for cap reasons, and this way they lose two mil and get a semi cheap player who can make an impact, and he seems like he would fit into Buffalo and has very good upside. Fleury brings in that drive to prove himself, and can be a reboot of the Fleury/Murray days with Luokkenen.

Barely, and not enough for Minnesota to justify trading for him. Besides, Flower's numbers are skewed.

Take away the first 3 games where Flower and the team allowed 20 goals against and his first game back from injury where he allowed 6 against as well, his goals against number is basically identical to Anderson's. They're actually playing at the same level.

There's also the fact that Minnesota's defense has been more porous than Buffalo's this year, especially to start the year, so Fleury had been seeing twice the shots Anderson did. Anderson's numbers would have plummeted if he were in Minnesota. But the defense has rebounded nicely since late November and been the 3rd best defense in the league since then.

In short, the team in front of them is the greater cause and effect of why their numbers look the way they do. But on a closer inspection, they've played at the same level all year long. The QS graph at the bottom of the link I provided supports that.

So it should be 1 for 1?

In a vacuum, probably.

In reality, unlikely. Or at least they're two reasons why it wouldn't happen.

1) Pedigree and Name Power.

Between the two, Flower is just going to command more in any trade because of who he is and what he's done. Even if it's an even swap in terms of skill level right now.

2) The teams involved.

How each goalie would play for the other team has to be considered and if they are a good fit or not. Anderson may actually be a better fit for the Wild given his entire game is built on positioning. It's how we're built on defense. Which is a holdover from our days with Dubnyk and part of why Gustavsson is doing so well and Wallstedt is a godsend.

That said, Flower is still Flower, and his presence in the lockerroom can't just be ignored. Gustavsson has stated several times in interviews that what he's learned from Flower on a daily basis has gone a long way to his improving himself. Which only makes sense.

That isn't exactly easy to want to give up. You know.

The other part of it though is the defense. If they start to play bad again, I would simply trust Flower more than I would Anderson to get us through it. And I don't think Anderson would be as good as Fleury here if that happened.

There's some pros, and mostly cons to this idea.

In closing, I think something would have to be added in an actual trade on top of Anderson just because of who Flower is. But it definitely wouldn't be a 2nd rounder, that's for sure. Simply because the gap between them isn't that large in terms of play. Maybe a 5th?

If Buffalo could get Duclair for that offer it would only have cost a fourth as Jost was a waiver pick up, more importantly, the Sabres could move Olofsson for a defenseman while saving $1,750,000 of cap.
Alternative trade Mittelstadt for a defenseman and put Asplund at center between Anthony and Victor and give the Sabres three scoring lines.

@RazWild I would love to have Fleury, he appears to have a very positive influence in the locker room, as is Anderson.
I do not see a great need to move out Anderson, so let's agree not to make the deal.

Just make it simple. MAF says no because he doesn't want to move again. BUF would be his 4th city in 2 calendar years; that's a lot of moving for an old (in hockey years) guy with a family.

Good point. Besides, he's stated multiple times he likes it Minnesota and can see himself finishing his career here. He loves the current roster too.

However, he had asked what the value would be if it did happen, so I was responding to that. 🤷‍♂️

Of course. I regret not at least referencing Anderson's lockerroom impact as well. But I was already getting rather long winded there already.

But, yes, Anderson is rather well known to be both beloved by his teammates and a great teacher of the game as well. But if you're going to learn from someone, I'd rather have the future HOF'er. No offense.

But I'd agree there isn't a trade here. Which is what I stated originally.

Just felt like having the debate on the terms of value, since it came up after all.
