Pens trade Leafs

Équipe: 2022-23 Penguins de Pittsburgh

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
I don’t know if Simmons waives his NTC to come to Pittsburgh after the history with him in Philly and the Pens. Maybe now with Hextall in Pittsburgh though.

But Friedman is a Canadian native and a cheap option for Toronto. Something Toronto is always looking for is Friedman’s tough play style too. Plus he’s a RH shot that plays both RHD and LHD equally well.

Toronto has to do right by Simmons and move him. And Burke/Hextall are also always looking for the old style hockey that Simmons provides.

Nothing major but a minor move that could help both teams depth and come playoff time .

Leafs would probably give you Simmonds for free but I don't think they'd take Friedman back because they are in a contract slot squeeze. This is probably a 'future considerations' type of deal.

Friedman is making 775K..lol. And tough as nails and more than capable 6th-7th NHL D-man. Again, Rh shot that plays both RHD and LHD equally well. And still just 26 years old.

The salary isn't the issue. The issue is that NHL teams can only carry 50 NHL contracts. The Leafs were right up against the mark until they terminated someones contract recently, now they are sitting at 49/50. it probably wouldn't be an issue except Friedman has next season signed as well so its a problem going forward with him. His path to the NHL is also unlikely in Toronto. Their depth defenseman have all been having great showings with the Leafs long list of IR casualties. Connor Timmins or Jordie Benn have both put a hold on those 7th and 8th defenseman spots. I'm not sure Friedman would slot in over Mete either at the 9th spot and Hollowell looked good in his chance too behind him. Basically Friedman would just be taking up a contract slot. Take Simmonds, he's all yours, give him the NHL opportunity ... just do it for free.

They terminated Rindells contract, ya. Even if Friedman is above Mete and Hollowell, he'd still be 9th on the depth chart. The contract slot is probably more valuable to the team.

Look up his fights too. He beat up Corey Perry, Joel Farabbe, V.Trocheck, etc.

And Connor Timmins has looked good so far. Looks like all he needed was an opportunity or change of scenery.

Even now. Dubas has a long history of doing right by his guys like Simmonds. He'd probably pass him on for nothing like he has 3 or 4 times before with other players.

Mm with the injuries to the blue line he would take Friedman as Mete is close to needing waivers along with Hollowell and we don't know how long Timmins will stay healthy

All I'm saying is I'm fine with the deal we get a cheaper guy who has been useful and he can help the Marlies

Like if we look Dubas always trades guys like Simmonds for someone the Marlies or Leafs can use

Simmonds wouldn't get a spot over Poehling at this point. He would be a veteran to bring in for depth at the deadline, but he isn't getting much playing time at this point in his career.
