Next years tough offseason

Description
We really don't have any money, so signing our own guys is the priority. Maybe there's some Sam Steel type find in the depths of the UFA market, but we can't afford to chase the big fish.

Boldy - identical 3x6,53% of the cap deal that Kucherov had before his mega-deal.

Gustavsson - doesn't hit a home run deal. Not yet. Instead he gets the biggest opportunity in his career, having a legit chance to be the #1 if Fleury ages and Wallstedt isn't ready. Most likely a good #2.

Addison - identical deal to Goligoski, a similar one to Fiala's 2x3. A sacrifice by Addison to win, also he doesn’t have the merits to get a big payday yet.

Gaudreau - a small raise. But the reason Gaudreu signs it is because nowhere else does he get a bigger role, more trust and a winning environment in the same package. He is Evason's favourite player.

Reaves - sure why not. If he wants to play, he takes this deal. If not, Philly and Fletcher are ready with their 6x5 million deal... :D

Shaw and Duhaime - identical deals, they'll battle against each other and Dewar, Walker for playing time. One of them might have to go, tho.

Dumba - we can't afford him even if he took a paycut. Luckily our prospects, mainly Addison, can likely take his role.

Im kinda thinking something will have to give with Goligoski either near TDL or this offseason. After seeing how emotional he was on his big night, I can’t see him doing another entire year of press box popcorn, old guy cheerleader role.

Not that it’s the point of your GM here, but just something that seems will boil over.

Yep, something has to happen. Problem is, Goli has a NMC and can control his faith....

Yeah that’s complicates it. Id imagine Guerin and Goose have discussed it a bit. Who knows…im over analyzing, but i kinda wonder if Goose is gonna have a hard think over the holidays with family time and use that to re-assess. Year end brings that out in ppl.

My hunch is that we’ll possibly hear some speculation from Russo post trade freeze. Either in the way of potential offseason retirement or a deal, idk

If the Canes wanted Steel, don't you think they'd have made a pitch this summer when he was a UFA instead of giving up a pick for him here? There's no cap crunch this summer either. It shouldn't actually be awful in terms of who the team loses either, not enough to justify giving up 3rd rounders for players that probably end up sitting in the press box

Goli is already hitting trade charts/lists.

I have Addison being traded at the draft. He's on pace for 40p season and that isn't a cheap re-sign. It'll be another "3 good months" rephrased into a "PP specialist"

Freddy G will probably get a Foligno type of deal. This offseason is probably his only chance to get any type of payday. Sturm got $2m this offseason (was rumored to have turned down $2.25m/yr from MN last year). Hartman got $1.7m as a 20p 4th line RW.

Gus should get more if he keeps up his current play. Somewhere around $2m/yr seems to be the going rate for decent RFA goalies.

Yeah I’ve wondered about an Addison trade too. If you had to guess, do you think they’ll just move him for futures, package him in something bigger, or some type of hockey trade player swap?

My guess would be futures and one of the prospects gets the 6D spot next year. A lot of it depends what happens with Goli.

I threw in the Canes mainly because of their history of finding gems for cheap. And just like I said, Steel is having a bit of a resurgence, so his value has gone up a bit in GMs' eyes around the league.

Addison traded? A wild idea for sure, pun not intended. I have him as a younger, cheaper, long-term Dumba replacement. It'd be foolish to trade him. What is the worth of bringing up prospects just to trade them for futures once they bloom? We are not a farm team, after all.

Addison adds nothing to the team except on the PP. It's fine if he's paid $2m/yr. If he's paid more than $2.5m then trade him, because he's not worth it.

Not that much. He's now tradeable. No one wanted him until the Wild signed him in like September.

Man, take this as a compliment for Carolina. Arguing over a 3rd round pick makes no sense, you missed my point by a mile

Saying he doesn't add anything 5v5 is bold. He is also just 22, so it's not like he is a finished product by any means
