Description
Columbus fans have little interest in trading Jenner and I recognize that. I think he would be a perfect fit for the Leafs. Big, Physical, Good Defensive, Can play left wing or can fill in a centre if Tavares or Matthews goes down, he is also a captain. I understand his value to Columbus but I think he would be perfect for Toronto.

I based the package similar to the Hagel package from last year. It is my understanding that Columbus have a lot of Winger and D prospects, so they would prefer C prospects. Minten is our best C prospect. Touted as a smart, 2 way, centre. He would be our most likely prospect to turn into a guy like Jenner in the future. There were 2 prospects in the Hagel trade but they were both 23-24 and with lower upside at that point.

This is definitely an over pay but it would take a lot for Columbus to move off Jenner and I really think this is a perfect fit.

Simmonds requested to be traded earlier this year. I am still confident a team will want him before the deadline. In this situation I chose TB.
This is all I would really do at the deadline. The only other player I would look at is Luke Schenn for defensive, physical depth. But only if the acquisition cost is right.

If not Boone jenner, Kuzmenko would be interesting to me. But he doesn't play C. Guys like Horvat and O'Reilly will cost too much considering they are ufas. I am happy to pay this price because Jenner is extended.

If you could convince Columbus to trade him this offer would work.

I mean if they get Bedard might as well explore it. As they got so many C prospects and Kuraly

The answer is a flat no. Two late 1sts is not anywhere near enticing enough to take by far the worst hole in our roster and make it overwhelmingly, apocalyptically worse. Without Jenner we have nobody reliable enough and skilled enough to shelter the kids and help then develop, and therefore potentially never get out of this hole.

Bedard can't be on the ice 60 minutes, they still need at least 1 other competent center

I understand that for sure. Could maybe scoop a guy up in free agency as well. 2 x 1st and a solid C prospect would be hard to turn down. I definitely understand why they do turn it down though.

This would help them tank this year as well.

They didn't do much at last years deadline because they didn't want to spend a 1st on a rental. They would much prefer a guy who they can keep long term.

I can definitely see them getting a guy like Kuzmenko as a rental though.

The key word is "if" - I would strongly contemplate it if I were them though.

That last is just even more reason why it absolutely will not happen. Throwing games is how you ruin prospects.

And Jenner is on a sweetheart deal - no free agent anywhere near his level is going to accept a contract anywhere near that.

    I think u do

Roslavic or Johnson or heck maybe CBJ does a trade with some of the picks for one of SJS's C's or goes after Larkin, ROR, Horvat via FA.

it depends on what your team culture is. If the culture is set and the players are giving their absolute all, every game, then I wouldn't worry about it. If their culture doesn't emphasize full effort, then it can be very problematic, very quickly. Loosing a guy like Jenner can definitely negatively impact the team culture. So there would need to be some other very strong leaders in the room for a deal like this to make sense.

Jenner is on a solid contract for sure. Hence why he is so attractive. (same reason as to why Hagel was so attractive as well).

Roslovic has been scratched and benched multiple times this year, he looks like a 3C at best now.
Johnson hasn't played center in years and definitely not at this level. Counting on him is a long shot right now. I would love for it to be work, but that is probably a year plus away.
Sillinger has had some growing pains this year. Hopefully he can be a solid middle 6 C for a long time, but putting more on his plate right now would be a terrible idea.
Getting a C in this draft would be huge, but not guaranteed.
    Kuraly is a great 4C.

All of that to say we may have options to put in the middle, but that does not mean that any of them are good,.

I mean there are 2 in the top 3 and with the way things are going in Columbus one of Bedard or Fantalli should happen

I feel if Columbus did the above trade they would then go after a center via trade.

Like lets say Yzerman wont pay Larkin CBJ just go get him then have 4c's of

    Larkin
    Sillinger
    Bedard
    Kuraly

You can wheedle and justify and imply we are stupid for not agreeing all you want, but Jenner is not up for trade. Full stop. Jenner is a load-bearing pillar of the entire organization. There is simply no offer on this site that you can make that will get the Columbus fans to agree to it.

I can’t even think of an analogous player for another team. Stamkos fills a similar role in Tampa, maybe, but he is also a superstar. Anders Lee, maybe, but you’d be hard-pressed to find an Islanders fan who wouldn’t trade him in a heartbeat for an upgrade. And then the most obvious comparison, Horvat, but he’s an expiring UFA and he’s a marginally better player.

    Hard no.
