Description
Assuming cap rises to 85M

FLA trade has been posted on here many times before. It makes a ton of sense positionally for both teams and the value is close imo. Add whatever you think to either side but these are the main pieces

Seems like Puljujarvi wont be with EDM much longer. Im not sure how that will play out - maybe he gets traded at the deadline or maybe EDM keeps him for 1 more run but its unlikely EDM qualifies him if they keep him. If the Avs trade for him I think he may be willing to sign for under his QO to get a fresh start in an organization with a history of success with turning defensive 2 way wingers (Nichushkin and Lehkonen) into top 6 players

J Toews will be 35 by July so he could be signed to a 35+ contract with a lower AAV and performance bonuses to make up for it (similar to what BOS did with Bergeron and Krejci). Im not really sure what kind of AAV he will be looking for. Hes made over 110M in his career already so maybe he will sign cheap to try to win again or maybe he will try to maximize $$$ since hes already won 3 cups. I dont know so I just put 2M AAV for now

Assuming NYI doesnt win the cup this year then it may be Parise's last chance to sign with a winning team. At age 39 theres a real chance he regresses but for 800k it doesnt really matter since he can be buried (Meyers/Maltsev/Foudy/Ranta/Kaut/Olausson/etc can replace him), and if he doesnt regress then 800k is great value for what he can provide

Holden could be replaced with whichever cheap UFA D man you want. I just chose Holden here since he played for the Avs before and seems like a solid D man still

Glendening could be replaced with whichever cheap UFA 4C you want

Newhook hasnt been great this year and I think that will bring his AAV down a bit from where a lot of people were expecting it to be going into this season. Obviously theres still a lot of time left and he could still take over 2C and show hes worth more than this, but assuming he finishes the season playing the same as he is now I think 2M is in the ballpark of what he will get. This puts him between what Chytil and Roslovic got on their 2nd deals

Byram hasnt played much this season and actually has by far the worst xGF% on the team so far. Its probably just due to a small sample size and based on his play from the 2022 playoffs he should be getting a nice payday. 3x4M matches the Dobson contract which I think is a nice comparable

Yeah good luck getting Jonathan Toews to sign for 1 yr $2,000,000 Not going to happen.

If Florida is trading Sam Bennett, It's to open up cap space. not take on a slightly more expensive contract in Sam Girard.

There was literally an athletic article the other day saying toews probably will have yo look for a 2m aav contract that’s incentive bonus heavy next year bc what they are hearing it’s unlikely he gets a big pay day again

I explained the J Toews contract in the description, but we really dont know what kind of deal he will be looking for. Hes made $110M+ already so maybe he just signs with whichever team he thinks is the best fit or maybe he tries to maximize his earnings, idk what his priorities are

Its not much of a cap difference between Bennett and Girard and the trade is in the offseason with a cap increase. I think the position swap from C to LD is a big reason for FLA to do this after losing Weegar

I like the Bennett trade and getting JP would be a nice buy low Candidate but I would rather the avs find a way to keep Rodrigues than go out and sign toews. Erod is such a great fit for This team

I wouldnt sleep on Ranta being the 3LW next year either, They seems to have a plan for him this year to develop him into a big body forechecking winger.

Id be happy with Rodrigues over J Toews but I wonder what kind of contract he will be looking for. He will probably want more term which could affect D Toews extending

I could see fit and term being more important than aav for Erod, I wonder if a 3m aav x 4 is something he would consider

I see what you did, disregard the contract comment in the other thread, but that’s some wishful thinking on those contracts for Byram and Newhook.

I think you're optimistic on the Byram & Newhook contracts, but only by a little. I'd agree with Coga that I'd prefer E-Rod over Toews. Not sure I'd do Bennett for Girard though.
