-Vancouver isn't trading Boeser in-season if all they're getting is a fringe roster player and a mid-round pick. If anything, it makes more sense to hang on to him til the end of the year when he'll only have 2x$6.65M left and more contenders will have the cap space available to make a pitch for him. Pass for the Canucks.
-Severson is a fine RD, and would be an upgrade over Tyson Barrie, as you said - which is why I'm confused that he's being traded for Evan Bouchard, and even more confused that the Oilers are adding a pick to a package for a rental RHD. Trading Bouchard like this would be the equivalent of trading Nico Hischier for JG Pageau during Hischier's down year in 2019-20 - would you have done that then? If the answer's no, then you know exactly why the Oilers hang up on this offer.
-Funnily enough, we have an example of a team trading an LTIR goalie for cap purposes from just this past summer - Dallas gave Buffalo a 7th to take Ben Bishop's deal off their LTIR, and to help Buffalo get to the cap floor. Vegas could benefit from Bernier's LTIR hit giving them a little more breathing room, sure, but Jersey also gets the benefit of not using LTIR (once Palat is healthy) and accruing actual deadline cap space. I think this deal gets done for FCs and that's it.
