Capitals 2023-2024

Créé par: Mike5889
Équipe: 2022-23 Capitals de Washington
Date de création initiale: 6 déc. 2022
Publié: 6 déc. 2022
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Conditions:
The cap rises by 4 million as has previously been suggested by Gary Bettman.

Trades:

@Eller
Caps won't be able to afford him the next season. The Avs gets a guy who will give them ~30 pts and top-notch penalty killing ability. The Avs can then decide whether to resign or let him go this off-season.

@Sheary
Caps won't be able to afford him on a new deal. His current deal, however, is a bargain, and even more so at 50% retained. Currently on pace for 20 goals and 40 pts. The Oilers get some quality depth scoring and an extra weapon to their offensive arsenal.

@Orlov
Caps won't be able to afford his new deal. The Leafs trade a 1st-rounder which will be a very late pick as well as a supposedly also late second-rounder in the following year for some quality insurance, given injuries to both Reilly and Muzzin.

@TVR
Boston sends a very late third-rounder for some crucial defensive depth in preparation for a deep playoff run.

Re-signings:
Forwards: Strome 3 yrs / 5.000k, Milano 1yrs / 1.500k, Brown 1 yrs / 3.000k
Defense: Fehervary 2 yrs / 3.000k, Jensen 3yrs / 4.000k, Alexeyev 1 yrs / 925k

Free-agency:
Caps use their cap space of ~6.9 million to improve their defense.
Possible targets: Mayfield (NYI), Gavrikov (CBJ), Soucy (SEA) etc...

Why didn't you just make a AGM for next season? lol

And they should be able to and should re-sign Orlov. He's their best defenesemen.

Leafs don’t need LHD or D at all imo; but if they want a dman, maybe target Jensen instead

No disagreement there. Personally, I very much prefer Orlov over Carlson.

Still, the way that the Caps have structured their cap going forward I very much doubt they could afford Orlov back. He will get 7+ million in the open market. People will point to his offensive production holding him back from receiving such a contract, but those numbers depend on powerplay time that he isn't getting due to their Ovechkin-Carlson setup. GM's and their analytics people most surely know this and see the numbers he could put up if put on the first powerplay unit.

Personally, I'd rather trade Carlson and use the savings from his cap hit to re-sign Orlov, but I just don't see management having the balls to do so.

While listed as an LHD, Orlov can play either side on defense comfortably.

If they are selling they move Jensen too and recoup another first. Doubt they re-sign brown and if they do its at less than half that cap hit. Obviously they need to sign a bunch of defenseman next year, but I imagine the bulk of any cap space they have will bee on an impactful scoring forward

I would have to disagree with your take on Orlov. While his play at times is certainly deserving of a 7 mil deal, even Hampus Lindholm didn't get that much (6.5 mil) despite being a younger player than Orlov. I can't see Orlov getting more than about 6 mil, which I think the Caps could afford, especially if they bring up McMichael and Lapierre full time next year.

I wouldn't mind Soucy at the 3RD spot if Iorio needs another year of development to replace TvR, or the Caps could possibly target TvR in FA if they trade him. I've liked his play so far in DC.

I think we could see Washington push for an extra year of term for Strome and Milano. To me, Strome would likely be asking for 4 or 5 and at probably around 5-5.5, that should be a very affordable deal going forward. As for Milano, I think he could get more around the 2-2.25 mil range for an extra year added on. I could see MacLellan being willing to pay extra money for one more year of Milano so that his deal expiring would coincide with Oshie and Backstrom (assuming Backstrom makes it to the end of his deal, that is).

Overall though, this is a decent ACGM. Trades look good (though perhaps a 2nd for Eller is a bit much), and I can't fault many of the signings.

Ellers, who doesn't need retention is not worth a 2nd. I would do a 4th at best.
