Might be a fair offer, Believe or not, the Canucks just might be better just buying out Boesner at the end of the season (or Armia)

Apparently the trade offer is Armia and 3rd round pick Vancouver needs cap space to sign Horvat.

Any deal involving Boeser means another overpaid winger goes back. No one is helping the Canucks cap. Cap space is the number 1 asset in the deal and they are getting their RHD!

Much like Boeser coming in at a low. Habs will need to rebuild Boeser who has been terrible defensively with the highest scoring chances against per 60 on the team by a wide margin at 36 scoring chances against with Brock on the ice.

Yeah I'm not doing that if I am the Canucks. Boeser is a Top-6 forward while Armia is a pure cap dump. He looks totally done at the NHL level

Mailloux has baggage too (that you like it or not) so not a very attractive trade for the Nucks

I'd be perfectly ok (and even want) the opportunity given to a more deserving younger player, but how do we know that at this point?

Boeser isn't being moved without a 1st + going back and Mailloux won't be considered a trade chip until he is cleared to play by the NHL.

Gallagher will cost you a 1st minimum to dump. He’s got one of the worst contracts in the league. Then you’d still have to pay for Boeser

Thanks for flaming all Habs fans after I literally said above that it costs a 1st + for Boeser and even made a thread showing that the cost for Boeser IMO is 1st with some protection + 2nd + Barron minimum.

Replace Habs fans with insiders and you are correct.

https://theathletic.com/3973820/2022/12/06/canucks-ilya-mikheyev-brock-boeser/

"Colleagues Thomas Drance and Rick Dhaliwal reported that the Canucks understand “that the return will be relatively pedestrian” if a Boeser trade is found. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that his value is minimal given the market conditions that the Oliver Bjorkstrand trade in the offseason hinted at, for example."

"Some clubs will therefore frame Boeser as an oft-injured, one-dimensional player who doesn’t score consistently enough at five-on-five to justify his $6.66 million cap hit."

https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/trade-targets-sizing-up-the-nhls-goaltending-market-this-summer/

"Scoop: GM Kent Hughes’ phone has rang consistently with teams inquiring about Anderson, whose skillset makes him a rare breed in today’s NHL. Anderson has skill, he can move, he’s big and has brawn. Oh, yeah, and he’s locked up for five more seasons at a very reasonable number for a guy who has knocked on the 30-goal door. To date, the Habs have resisted the urge and likely some tempting offers, but you have to at least allow for the possibility that they get a ‘Godfather’ offer they cannot refuse."

You realize there's a world of difference between "relatively pedestrian" and "a useless cap dump and a guy who might not even make the NHL", right?

Yes, 'relatively pedestrian' comes from the article you quoted, and I'm arguing that a useless cap dump (Armia has less points since the beginning of last season than Boeser has in 20 games this year) and a damaged good prospect aren't anywhere close to "relatively pedestrian".

Your quoted article references the Oliver Bjorkstrand trade, for example - Bjorkstrand had a lower cap hit but more term and got back a 3rd/4th combo for Columbus. *That* is a "relatively pedestrian" return. No team in the league would give up a 3rd and a 4th for Armia & Mailloux right now.

To put it another way: if *this* is the best offer that Vancouver gets for Boeser, they just buy him out at the end of the year. They'll get the same amount of production out of the $2.2M they're flushing down the toilet as they would from Joel Armia at $3.4M.

Let me start off by saying I already said the original offer was light so I am not disputing that here. Now, the only thing I am commenting on is the following

Armia has less points since the beginning of last season than Boeser has in 20 games this year and a damaged good prospect aren't anywhere close to "relatively pedestrian"

Armia has played less games than Boeser with having only played in 14 due to injury

And, Boeser somehow cant score more than 29 goals in a season despite playing with Petey whereas Ilya Mikheyev (the awful one-trick pony many here described over the Summer) is flourishing on Petey's wing. It's almost as if if you play with talent like a Petey, your stats balloon. What a novel concept. Maybe even a Josh Anderson could do well on a top line role, hmmm

Oh, that might've been worded awkwardly - I meant that since the beginning of 2021-22 for Armia. He's 6-10-16 in 74 GP since the beginning of last year, while Boeser is 4-12-16 in 23 GP this season alone. I also looked that stat up before hockey-reference updated everything this morning, so with his assist last night, Joel Armia actually has the same amount of points since the beginning of 2021-22 as Brock Boeser has in 2022-23 alone.

My fault if I worded it in a way that made it too confusing to understand, sorry.

Nobody wants a guy like Andreas Johnsson whom I've seen a few Devils fans offer to go with some late 5th round picks.
Logan Mailloux is worth far more as soon as Bettman clears him to play which would happen almost immediately on a deal like this.
