I feel like this is easily beaten if ORielly is on the market, unless he refuses to go anywhere else. But I love the target, ROR would be a great fit in the top 6.

First off, Giroux is a bad comp because he had an NMC that let him control his destiny, and ROR has no such limitations. But even if we use it as a comp, let's remember: Giroux's return was a 1st/3rd/young roster player.

This is a 1st/a guy picked in the 3rd last year/a pending UFA. I could buy the Blues taking Moldenhauer instead of a future 3rd rounder if they like him, but the difference in future value between Tippett and Kerfoot kills it. Not sure who the Tippett analog on Toronto would be - maybe Nick Robertson or Nick Abruzzese? Either way it's going to have to be an under-23 player coming back, not a pending UFA, to match the Giroux package.

In additional to what dannibalcorpse said, the Blues beat writer for the athletic mentioned earlier today that even if the Blues do sell off Tarasenko, they may keep and re-sign O'Reilly. Not that I necessarily think that's a smart thing to do but if they don't even care about selling him that much, price goes up then too.

And that's a significantly worse offer than the Giroux trade.
