Habs fans are certainly consistent on here. Consistently insane. This trade doesn't make sense on any level.

For Mantha in the offseason maybe? If Orlov is dealt as a rental and signs elsewhere in FA?

I was just thinking about that. In 3 years I think the top 7 D will be:

Guhle, Barron, wifi, Mailloux, Hutson, Kovacevic, Harris

So Matheson, Eddy & Savard all become trade chips.

Let me just add something here. As someone who was a big fan of Matheson and wished we kept him, he's not worth a 1st, let alone adding someone like Blueger who's got serious value despite being a 4C.

He was drafted 6 years ago, we haven’t heard much about him. He’s in his 4th year of university, his stats are not very impressive. He turns 25 in a few months. We would have heard about him by now. So I don’t think he’s part of the future.

Jack smith is interesting. He’s in his first year of ncaa as a 20 year old. Most are 18 during 1st year. He says he’s a power forward but he hasn’t really shown anything so far this year.

He had a growth spurt but I’m still waiting to see his game take the next step

I was a paid scout for 14 years and coached in the OHL, so I’m used to writing reports and insights on players.

People have all kinds of opinions. I’ve been ridiculed every level I’ve been at. I remember in 1999 a scout laughing at me when I said a certain player would play pro. He played 11 years pro.

Then in 2001, a scout walked out of the room and said I was crazy to pick a defensive dman over a veteran. The veteran never played higher than junior, the defensive dman played over 500 games in the NHL.

In 2008, I saw a 16 year old getting 1 shift per period. I got him traded because the GM wouldn’t play him. He yelled at me and threw his phone against the wall. Today he’s captain of an nhl team.

Many people are passionate and opinionated about hockey, very few understand how to project a player’s future.

Grant McCagg months before the draft said Montreal would draft Slafkovsky over Wright. So he got that one right
