Sabres just signed Samuelsson to a 7 year extension, why would they trade him + a lot more and add in a cap dump for an above average goalie

Regardless of the trades, I don't think it's a playoff team unless the defense steps up in a massive way. Very offensive team that will see similar challenges to the current roster.

-Avs aren't going to weaken their D to upgrade 2C, and give up a 1st. This trade would be a pass.

-Buffalo passes on this easily. Samuelsson is more valuable to them than a 32 year old OEL who still makes about $1.5M more than Samuelsson will on his extension. There's also the fact that I can't see a team trading a guy they just extended before he plays a game under that extension - it doesn't really set great precedent for future negotiations, and it's already hard enough to get people to sign in Buffalo. Demko is definitely interesting for Buffalo but not at this cost.

-I think Ottawa passes. Cap is going to start getting tighter for them - for next season, they only have 8 forwards, 4 D, and 1 goalie currently on their NHL roster under contract and about $21M in cap space. Shane Pinto will need a new deal, they're going to need *at least* a 1B goalie in free agency, plus a ton of depth guys to add - I don't think the minor upgrade from Joseph/Brannstrom to Garland/Bear is going to be worth the extra ~$3Mish those two guys will get, in addition to the Sens adding picks. Sens stick with what they have and allocate the cap to bigger upgrades elsewhere (RD1 & goalie, I'd assume.)

-I like the value for an expiring Tanner Pearson at $1.65M, basically - not sure if it's Toronto, but if you're eating half that deal I think someone will take a swing at it for a mid-round pick.

Yeah Garland might be better than Joseph but costs almost the double. Sens can't make that swap and most teams will be very tight against the cap

Brannstrom has looked very good this season, despite the lack of production

Bear is RD but maybe not what they are looking for. He was traded for a 5th recently, if they really wanted him, they could have easily beat that offer

No point adding picks too

Ottawa definitely pass
