Description
I think top priority would be one more guy who can put up points in their top 6. If they can also play Centre, that would be ideal. So a guy like ROR or Horvat would be interesting to me. BUT they would be expensive. Kuzmenko isn't a centre but would be a great add in my mind and should be cheaper than the other 2.

Outside of that our Goaltending depth and defensive depth have been tested very hard this year and has done a great job. Unless they get a guy like Chychrun, I don't see them making any moves there. Possible for them to get a guy like Schenn for added size, physicality and depth but it may not be needed.

I know this is a 52 contract team right now - That would be an easy solve through waivers or minor trades.

Thoughts?

Horvat would then also need a 3rd and Niemela or a high end prospect.

Think this is a fair trade, and I can see Kuzmenko easily fitting in alongside Tavares. Also maybe he can resign here for somewhere around 3.5/4m. His agent is Dan Millstein who has worked with this Leafs management group on a lot of his clients and treated them well (i.e Barabanov, Mikheyev). Also reportedly Leafs were interested in him last year, so yea can see this move work out well.

Personally, I wouldn’t burn a 1st on kuzmenko who has ZERO nhl track record. Not his fault, but until he shows he can produce when ice gets small and refs put away their whistles (only major league in the world where everyone knows rules change in playoffs 😕) - he’s not worth a 1st. Better players than him should be available. And waivers doesn’t rid you of a contract unless player is claimed

I can see him fitting nicely also! I would be happpy to extend him as well. I think he gets more than 3.5-4m though. Time will tell!

I know the player would need to be claimed. I was suggesting that getting to 50 wouldn't be overly hard. Just add useless prospects to the kuzmenko trade and trade someone for future considerations.

As for Kuzmenko. Sure his NHL sample size is small. But he point well over a PPG in the KHL last year. Very few players do that there. He also seems to be all heart. Guys like that tend to excel in playoffs and in big games. I would be happy to pay this for him.

The other guys that would be better than him would cost one of our high end prospects as well.

Obviously the sample size is small but he has shown to be able to produce very well. He is also pretty good defensively. I’d imagine he will be looking for a big paycheck like Kaprizov did
