Man, I just can't imagine Gavrikov is a target that the Leafs would spend big on. Don't get me wrong - I like the player and in another situation I'd be all over this. But even though it's been reported/speculated that there could be interest there, I just don't see the sense in Toronto going after a UFA left handed Dman.

Edit: Unless he plays the right, which I don't believe he does.

Nyquist and Ceulemans is probably enough

    He does not.

I know what you mean; but, a minute-munching T4 D who can handle the PK and has some sneaky offense is everyone’s go-to overpay come TDL. Someone will give a 1st.

I’d stay away from Boeser if only because, to your point, he’s a W. I get wanting to replace Jake, but we are in a better spot right now having the roster spot open and giving a young guy (Chinny for example) the playing time, even if it only took Rosy + CC.

I would love a Murphy trade, and I’ve seen CHI fans put his trade value all over the place, so I’m not sure what gets him. Problem is, with Jiricek tearing the AHL apart, and Peeke here for the long-term, Murphy’s role is in some limbo. He could maybe be a long-term 2RD? Hold the fort until Jiricek is ready for 1RD…

That is, unless, idk…we didn’t have a 6’5”, 217 lbs anchor on the right side.

I'm sure someone might, I just don't see the logic in the Leafs doing it.

Someone's gonna pay but I feel like the Leafs learned their lesson a few years ago about using firsts as a rental...ESPECIALLY...as their whole team is basically looking at the edge of a blowup. Another first round playoff meme and I don't know what's gonna happen first all the players contracts who are due won't resign or Toronto burns down their city by getting tired of being memed with said team. They are going to backpocket that 1st...just incase of a potential "break incase of emergency" so I believe Y'alls front office is going to be especially careful the next few months.

Personally if a Canadian team is gonna bite for the first I believe its gonna come from the oilers IMO.

I keep telling myself...atleast the buyout isn't that bad...the buyout isn't that...OH WHAT NOW BJORK LOOKS NHL CAPABLE AND WOULD BE A CHEAP 3RHD WAITING FOR THE FUTURES TO DEVELOP!!!! Sign I mean we struck gold with our RHDs but sadly we have the traffic cone in the way when Olivier brings plenty of fight/grit that Gudbranson really hasn't been willing to show this year.

Why wouldn't the Leafs just go after Murphy in this scenario?

What are you talking about? No we don't. We've got a ton of quality guys in the system. Hell, Marchenko could be called up Any Day Now. Why are we spending assets on another one-way guy? And even if one granted you that argument, Boeser doesn't replicate Voracek's skillset; he's a sniper, not a playmaker. The whole concept just doesn't make sense.

I really don't get why people think Gudbranson absolutely has to play. Let him be #7D and an Unofficial Assistant Coach and play the guys who will help us do better.

You’re not wrong; but, optics matter to these guys. As a GM/coach, sitting your newly signed $16M man isn’t a good look - to your team, to your fans, and, most importantly, to the owners/your bosses.

It doesn’t bother me too much in what is quickly becoming a throw-away year. Absolutely, though, if Jiricek and CC or someone else proves NHL ready next year, sit Guds in favor of them. Send him to the AHL, but him out, whatever.

Like I said at that point might as well make him the assistant defensive coach...pretty sure that position is still open on the staff. He might be an anchor but he's smart and has a locker room presence from what we heard. Honestly I just want to see more grit out of him how he mauled that guy last week. If he's gonna be a 4mil anchor I want to see him and Olivier maul people to get the crowd back into the game if we are sluggish as Olivier is really the only one doing it right now. Like we saw Gudbranson can really light someone up if he wants...he just really hasn't yet.

    ...and there it is...

Yeah if Columbus is going to splurge on assets its going to be a low end 1C or depth LHDs right now.
