Quoting: Wreckless
If you trade Bernier, you accrue cap space throughout the year.
Johnson costs you over $2mm in cap space while in the AHL.
If the cost to accrue deadline cap space is going to be a 1st rounder, I'd just deal with LTIR - and for what it's worth, they're currently using about $3.8M of the $4.125 LTIR space, so if they trade Bernier, they lose that - which means, after dumping Johnsson's contract they *still* need to find about $1.5M to clear. Mayyyybe they get back under by running a 20 man roster for a bit, and then if you assume Schmid and one of Holtz/Zetterlund/other forward under $1M goes down when Palat & Blackwood come back, they'll have like $100K under the cap - which isn't really going to amount to much of anything at the deadline. At this point, moving Bernier off LTIR is going to cause a headache more than anything else - his contract (and Johnsson's) are gone after this year, so it's just as easy for them to hang on to them. And you know what? If they're still stuck on Josh Anderson this summer, they'll have the cap space to add him on to their roster without having to jump through these extra hoops to make it happen!
