This is the first Anderson trade I've seen with a 1st coming BACK with Anderson....but even still, I can't see any way Devils have interest in the Anderson contract.

Some rando podcaster for the Habs blurts out the Devils are VERY interested, well I have bad news on that front for Habs fans.

The Devils are a high analytics team, Anderson analytics stink.

None of the Devils trades were actually forecasted. Anyone saying the Devils had interest in VV is just a shot in the dark knowing the Devils needed a goalie. Beyond that, no one saw the Siegenthaler or Marino trades coming. Not even the Ryan Graves deal had any leaks. So why would the Devils suddenly have openly leaked discussions on a bad analytic player with too large of a contract for his output??

If anyone wants to look at John Marino underperforming last year....well...look at the cost the Devils gave up for him. They bought low, and he's been stellar. Any purchase of an underperforming Anderson wouldn't also come with the cost of a highly valuable asset.

Forgetting analytics for a second, Anderson is the kind of guy that scares players in playoffs with his speed and heavy hits.
He won't ever score 20+ goals, but the Devils badly needs a guy like him.
Hughes, Bratt, Hischier, Tatar are going to get beat up by top teams like Bruins, Tampa, Vegas, etc.

Or the Devils could just outplay those teams, and score actual goals, instead of trying to hit them away?

The Pens don't BADLY need a dman. Habs fans are sometimes worse than Leafs fans on here.

Tony Marinaro who started that rumour is not one to speak "out of school". He eluded to the fact that he has it on excellent info that there is significant interest. He has a record of calling these things over 20 years of reporting on the Habs and he knows reporters and hockey executives everywhere.

I don't think you can discount this as though it's an Eklund rumour.

Pens decline. Letang is out indefinitely but not forever. We can’t afford Edmundson even if we wanted to massively overpay for him. The pens have 8 nhl caliber defensemen not named Letang. 4 of those are right handed with Petry, Rutta, Ruhwedel, and Friedman.

Only way Penguins make that trade is if you swap out our first for either Dumo or Kappy.
We don't need any defenseman even with Letang being out. We especially don't need to overpay for a below average defenseman with another year left on his deal.

Devils take that deal if you retain half and swap out the Florida first for your own first. It costs a lot to dump bad contracts. Habs fans should know this since you got a first for one single season of Monahan

Habs fans should want this to be Eklund-esque rumor. Because if it’s legit, it only makes Kent’s operation look like a clown show.

From the Devils perspective, there is zero chance we are offering Luke Hughes, Simon Nemec, Alex Holtz for a 4th liner making $5.5m x 5 years. These are not some random holdover prospects from the previous regime. These are Fitzy’s guys.

I find it hilarious the number of people who think for a second MTL would pay to move Andersons "bad contract" tears of joy Like we're somehow strapped for cash paying a middle 6 winger middle 6 money...

Hughes has had a target in his back since he arrived in this league. Pretty much every game, some knucklehead takes an unprovoked run at him (as if they are the first to try). He has adapted and is better about protecting himself.

Bratt has three fights on resume (Marchand, Grundstrom, one other). For a little guy, he has a surprising amount of scrap in him. His legs are like trunks too.

Hischier isn’t small nor one to be intimidated. He’ll be fine.

Tatar, we’ll find out I guess.

Isles already have an Evgeni Dadonov at home, he's named Josh Bailey. If you want them to take that contract off your hands at full freight you're adding a significant pick - but seeing as how Montreal doesn't *need* to move any cap at this time, you should just hang on to him longer and see if he can manage to rebuild any sort of value.

I could see the Isles taking Dadonov at the deadline. We have $13m in deadline cap space so in theory could fit him at full freight but not if they add other expensive pieces

That’s fine if he isnt and maybe Fitz does “want” him bad but he won’t pay a first or top prospect for him. If that means the devils don’t trade for him that’s fine by us as fans and I’m sure Fitz will find another steal instead

If the Devils are really that worried about getting beat up, then just call up Geersten for free
