So what would you value a far superior player like Bo Horvat who is having a career year and has more goals than Monahan has points?

It's hard to judge because if he keeps up that goal pace, has there ever been a TD move that big? Have to assume a 1st + a top prospect at the minimum.

Nope. He'll EASILY get a 1st or we'll keep him.

Canucks cannot afford to keep Kuzmenko and Horvat unless they trade 2 big pieces which is probably what they will try to do unfortunately. That would mean the Canucks keep 2 players while losing 2 players meaning that they will be even worse next year. Doesn't make too much sense. Management has got to realize we need to rebuild

Keep Kuzmenko, Trade Horvat + Garland/Miller like I said

I find it funny how some people were sleeping the Sabres 1 2 Center combo and now Thompson and Cozens both look amazing. Thompson especially is just insane. Hes like a forward version of Tyler Myers if Myers were good.

I thought the Sabres should have waited to see if Thompson could repeat last season. I was wrong. He’s a legitimate 1C

Were you messaging like this last year before the Chiarot or Lehkonen or even Kulak trades? It happens every year, not sure why people doubt their values come TD

I personally Think vancouver will attempt to keep Kuz and Trade Horvat + Garland. Just feels like that teams needs some fresh energ. Kuz is still new enough to where he can be a core peice for them IMO. I also dont just see them full on Fireselling everyone, I think their goal is still be a competive team With Petey + Hughes

Recent history suggests they won't go nuts and trade like 3 core players. They've shown zero interest in rebuilding thus far. I think things are turning in that direction, but we'll see.

GM's aren't just gonna forget that Monahan was a cap dump in the summer

That has nothing to do with anything. He's a 50 PT 2nd line center. Teams couldn't take a risk on that contract for a guy who just had double hip surgery. Montreal took the risk and it paid off.

Copp got a 1st, 2nd, prospect
Giroux got a 1st, 3rd, decent prospect
Foligno got a 1st, 4th

All those players were significantly worse than Horvat in the year they were traded. Horvat for a 1st, 2nd, top prospect is not unreasonable

Not disagreeing if Horvat can keep up his current pace. I doubt he does, but it's feasible

He doesn't have to keep up his pace for him to be the most productive rental in recent history. I think by the deadline he can easily have 35 goals

Doesn't really require me to go through your history to remember your outrageous takes. I am not imagining things. I don't think I am not the only one in this thread who agrees that you overvalue Habs players way more than other people

I think Timo Meier is the top forward potentially available at the TDL. He seems to be built for the postseason.

I'd imagine Horvat and Kane are still the top candidates given their situation. Also, his playoff production isn't exactly eye popping

A rebuild is a long process. Doubt they will trade everyone in one year. Kuzmenko and Horvat should easily be the first to go. If Boeser and Garland rebound next year, they should also go. They tried making it work with this core but it didn't happen

Tbf Chiariot is a DMan which are typically a Hotter comodity on Trade Deadline Day

Lehky didnt go for a ridiculous price really. Good return for both teams

Kulak wasnt a bad price either

My opinion on Canuck values:

Horvat with retention: 2023 first, second, A prospect
Kuzmenko: 2023 first, maybe a late round pick
Schenn: third round pick, maybe a late second if a team is desparate but it is unlikely

Looking at advanced numbers both were great players, but Lehky was a career middle 6 defensive forward. Got a former 1st + 2nd.

Kulak was a career 3rd pairing defender that got a 2nd.

Monahan is a former PPG forward, a very good faceoff taker who will easily get a 1st +

Why are we looking at his history if it's behind him? Of course we have to get to the TD with no issues first, but if he gets there, nobody should be concerned about his history for a single playoff run.

Cuz gms care about what kind of players they're bringing in, and history matters there quite a lot. Especially if they plan to keep the guy long-term.

That being said, I think Monahan stays in MTL. But for the life of me I can't see a scenario where Habs net a first for first taking him in, and another for moving him out. Sounds WAY too fantasy world sh*t for me.

"Former" A team wont pay for him because hes a "Former" PPG player especially with his injury history. Im a fan of Monahan and think he might be able to net a first but thats max with the way the TDL market is.

The fact that you say "former PPG" just goes to show that even you know that he is nothing like what he used to be. Just because he was good like 4 years ago doesn't mean he is that same player now.
