Devils really shouldn't do that given Meier's 10m QO and uncertainty that brings, say nothing of giving up a 1st rd pick in the most stacked draft since 2003.
Besides, the Devils just got competitive after the re-rebuild so it's still way too early in their cycle to trade blue chip prospects and / or 1sts for immediate gain.

I really wish the Meier and Josh Anderson to the Devils AGMs would stop.

I like Meier. Would want him on this team if a trade was done with reasonable extension. So I got no beef with those.

Not sure I can say the same about Anderson (at any price). But I do get a good chuckle every time Anderson trade pops up.

I don't understand the Reimer push. Schmid has been excellent thus far. People are only looking at Blackwood being out.

We have 4 awful and 4 excellent games from Schmid, who is waivers exempt. Reimer is good and steady.

Sharks are giving up too much. We don’t need Blackwood with all the goalies we have in our system. I assume you don’t need Nieto either. Rather trade him for a 3/4 round pick elsewhere.

Reimer is worth a 2/3rd round pick. So we would either need another pick or another prospect. Only way this deal works is if Meier signs an extension with NJD.

So that is last year on a total trash team. He's playing well with this roster in front of him. No need to get any of those assets involved for a backup.

It's like, functionally the same team? and goals saved above expected normalizes for the team. Schmid was really bad /normalized for the team/ last year.

C'mon man, Marino has been a MASSIVE improvement on the defensive end and the overall roster is playing much better. Pushing Severson down to a lower role to replace Subban while Marino is a top line shutdown guy has been all the difference. If you can't see a major difference between what we saw last year and this year on defense I don't know what to tell you.

I mean, yes the team is playing better. Marino is a big improvement over Ty Smith. But the underlying numbers were pretty good last year! Theyre exceptional this year. The team wasn't awful though. The goalies were! Schmid especially lol Again, GSAx normalizes for team.

But yeah, the biggest difference is definitely the goalies - including Schmid! - being a lot better this year.

It also helps being healthy, but if we had all those same conditions as last year, Reimer isn't saving us anyway, so the point would be moot.

I'm not entirely sure. I think we'd have made the playoffs last year with Reimer (and...not recchi)

I'd absolutely trade for Reimer for the playoffs this year. He's good, consistent, and we can send Schmid down to develop more.

I may be remembering incorrectly, but I’m pretty sure CJ Tutoro had a thread last season showing that an average tendie, which Reimer was last year with a GSAe of +0.1, would have put us into at the very least playoff contention.

The power play was really the only on ice compontent of the team that kept us from a quality roster other than goaltending. Obviously a guy like Marino is an improvement over Ty Smith, but a guy in net like Steiner last year would have given us a legitimate shot at the playoffs
