Both will help you tremendously but they'll cost and you have to clear cap space too...

I think teams are going to wait on monahan. He’s stunk for the last three years, i doubt teams will be all over him after a solid 20. I somewhat doubt it continues.

He has been below a .5 ppg once in the 8 years since his rookie season. His play declined due to injury but he far from stunk.

You said 3 years he was still a productive player 3 years ago. He was "healthy scratched" in his last year when he very clearly needed surgery.

    Pardon me. Steady decline.

We don’t have to argue about this, we have evidence: the flames had to trade a first round pick to move one year of his contract. My assertion is that NHL teams aren’t going to judge a guy after 20 okay games.

    If you ignore context maybe.

Calgary had to trade a 1st because they wanted Nazem Kadri and no team was going to help them with the cap to make it happen. Habs had all the leverage as with Price's announcement within the same time period they were one of the only teams who could make it happen.

It was still far enough out they didnt know the exact timeline of Monahans return and what he would be like when he returned. That has since been answered. He can skate again take and receive hits comfortably and play closer to a level he was at before his hip problems.

55 point pace 6'2 centres who kill penalties and are good at faceoffs are expensive to acquire at the deadline and that what he is right now.

If he was a good enough player that teams could say, “well that was a decent 20 games, we’ll pay a first to get him,” calgary wouldn’t have had to pay a first to move him. Denying that seems utterly delusional. Think you’re looking at this one with your heart, not your head.

Again you are just being ignorant to context.

Sean Monahan isnt a unknown commodity. He has played 677 NHL games with 476 points. They know what he was and 20 games is more than enough to assess where he currently is in relation to that.

That’s me using very, very simple logic.

This is like having someone to take away their trash, and thinking you’ll be able to sell the trash to their neighbor for what you just got paid to haul it out.

    Show your work.

There are two parts to this
    1. It took a first to move one year of his contract - that isn’t seen often, and establishes his value.
    2. NHL GMs aren’t likely to judge a short sample size, for a player with a large sample size - i think everyone can agree on that.

There’s no controversy in those statements. They’re just objective fact. If you believe both to be true, thinking that monahan has immense value is equivalent to burying your head in the sand.
