i can't really tell who this trade makes less sense for tbh but it's an intriguing concept. i'm sure a ton of people are about to yell in the replies and it'd never happen but this is a fun thought exercise.

I'd really like to find a way to get Dobson but Stutzle is literally untouchable

The other 2 untouchables I'd say are Tkachuk and Sanderson, with Stu are the 3 key players in the rebuild

Norris, Batherson and Chabot are also very unlikely to get moved but not as untouchable

The only significant player the Sens can afford to move is Alex DeBrincat

Off your rocker if you think Ottawa has any business trading Stützle. Point per game player at 20, he's not even close to at his peak.

    I know he's on a great deal, but I'd trade Batherson for a top 4 D in a heartbeat.

For Dobson yeah, but hmmm Batherson is quite important for our window. A first liner at that price is a big competitive advantage, too bad we're ruining a year of it

We need to trade Alex DeBrincat for a RHD, no one else

I would move Dobson for Stuzle. Very few players I would move Dobby for but he’s one. I wouldn’t do it for DeBrincat with the deal he’s going to command. Pulock for DeBrincat is closer. Ask me that one in the offseason lol.

Dobson for Stutzle 1 for 1 maybe. Dobson and a 1st is a hard pass

I know contracts are a factor, but I'd still take Cat. The goals are gonna come, he gets chances and he works hard. Batherson has struggled this season too, and when he's off he might as well be in the press box. He's so talented, but his lack of consistent effort night over night is brutal, I don't know how he hasn't taken more **** for it this season.

Isles pass because there's *nothing* behind their current RHD depth chart and Brannstrom is just another version of Robin Salo/Sebastian Aho as an offensive minded LHD.

And while a PPG forward at 20 is one hell of an asset, I'd argue that a 22 year old RHD scoring at a 55 point pace is pretty damn close in value. I could see this being a one-for-one type of "challenge" trade if the players were unhappy in their current situations, but I can't see the Islanders needing to also add a 2023 1st rounder.

Isles pass. Dobson for stutzle is probably fair 1 for 1 (though as NYI I wouldn’t do it) but we aren’t adding a 1st. Also NYI is logjammed at C already and I don’t want to move stutzle to W.

Brannstrom is very underrated because some people somehow thought he would come and dominate the league at 20 y/o but I disagree with the comparison

Salo is 24 and played 25 NHL games. I really doubt he'll ever be as good as Brannstrom already is

Aho is a little more comparable but he's 27 soon and there's a reason Brannstrom already played more NHL games at 23 (turned 23 in Sept). He's less sheltered than both and actually have impressive advanced stats

Sure, it's hard to shine in DJ Smith mess of a defensive structure/system but he has progressed every season, both sides of the puck. He looked impressive in some games and was one the Sens best players.

I posted his advanced stats yesterday. Brannstrom among the 219 D-men who have at least played 100 ES minutes :

    - 22nd in CF/60
    - 25th in CF%
    - 21st in SF/60
    - 22nd in SF%
    - 7th in xGF/60
    - 21st in xGF%
    - 22nd in SCF/60
    - 15th in SCF%
    - 16th in HDCF/60
    - 47th in HDCF%

And while Dobson is awesome, Stutzle will be a special player, which will get clearer and clearer in the near future. He has been PPG (57 pts in 56 GP) since February 15th (33rd in NHL scoring since) and his advanced stats are starting to look impressive. The scary part is that he's just scratching the surface.

No chance I'd do Stutzle for Dobson + 1st and God knows how much the Sens would need Dobson

I wouldn't do Dobson for DeBrincat regardless of his next contract if I was the Isles

Pulock makes more sense and could actually help both teams

I find that Batherson is a better player, more dangerous. Neither are very good defensively but they can be adequate in good hockey systems. Sure Batherson has been a bit frustrating these days but when considering contracts, I keep Batherson over DeBrincat 100 times out of 100.
