Description
Ryan Whitney on Spittin Chiclets believes that the Bruins can get in on Kane with this tweet - https://twitter.com/ryanwhitney6/status/1597292666949365760?cxt=HHwWgMDT_ffN3KosAAAA

Whit believes the Bruins are all in this year as a dominant team in the NHL.
Please add any prospects/draft picks that need to make this trade happen. I'll start with 2 1sts.

Feel free to add if Whit is an idiot or a genius.

I don’t think it makes much sense, but it’s worth thinking about.

Two firsts for any rental is too much in my book. Maybe if there was double retention.

There are other teams that will be willing to give up more, and the Bruins prospect pool feels somewhat shallow.

Unless Chicago is willing to take Mitchell Miller 😬

Whit is an idiot overall but thinking BOS might be in for a big splash at the TDL is probably right. They’ll have to juggle the cap tho so it’ll cost quite a bit.

Are we there yet? Usually there’s a point in the season where somehow everyone on this forum except a select few just collectively forget what rentals cost. I didn’t think we were there yet this year, but maybe it came around early.

Two players Chicago doesn't want and 2 really late 1sts. Kane needs scorers on his line. He has fewer goals than Jason Dickinson. Is he really a fit in Boston?

Ryan Whitney is absolutely an idiot. You don't even need him to open his gob to tell that he's a cement head, you just need to look into his dead eyes to tell there's no higher level thought happening there.

That said, if Boston can clear the cap space (big if right now) they have absolutely no reason not to be in on Kane. There's no tomorrow for this group, they should be in on anyone who might help them win.

Ristolainen was a rental. He cost Haag, a cap dump, a 1st, #14 OA and a 2nd this year, probably in the 30s OA. He's nowhere near the player Kane used to be.

This package isn't getting Kane. Two very late 1sts are nothing more then a bag of magic beans, then adding 2 big cap dumps? No, that's not getting it done. The likely package for Kane 1/2 retained is a late 1st, a very good/top prospect, maybe a young'ish NHL player as well, and cap dump(s) going back to the Hawks.

Start with Giroux last year, then realize Kane is a better player especially in the playoffs, and probably not going to pigeon-hole the Hawks to waiving for 1 team only.

You are asking them to retain 50% and sending them 2 cap dumps, one with term.

Reilly is a good player. There would be no problem moving him for assets in the off-season when everyone isn’t hard against the cap. He’s worth the $3M.

Two firsts for a rental isn’t really a thing.

Alright. So that answers that. The question is answered. We are at the point in the year where people forget what rental trades look like.

It wasn’t a 1st, and 14 overall, which is what your statement reads like.

Also a completely different trade as it was in the off-season.

That trade also sucked.

A year of Robert hagg at $1.6M isn’t exactly a earth shattering cap dump.

BOS should hold onto next years 1st, the wheels on the bus could fall off at any point after this year.

The package should look more like Merkulov + 2023 1st + 2025 2nd

Next year Boston is gonna have to prepare for the departure of Bergeron and Krejci who are most likely gonna retire.

Boston should just keep the assets and just play it out. They win great, they lose oh well got draft picks to use for the future retool

Context matters; Eichel was having an uproven surgery, carrying one of the biggest cap hits in the league while being traded 1/3rd into the season when vary few teams had cap space, in open dispute with his team, has been a problem for management in Buffalo, way too many risks in that scenario. Just look at how many teams were interested in Eichel....2? Bad comparison

Like I said, start with Giroux and we all know Kane is better player and even better playoff acquisition then Giroux and you'll understand why a late 1st and underperforming top prospect certainly isn't out fo the cards.

Are you expecting the return to kane to be the highest rental return in NHL history? Not meant to be rhetorical, genuinely asking.
