agree to disagree - teams might pony up a 1st for Bo Horvat or Patty Kane, but if I'm looking for a middle-6 upgrade and the Habs are digging their heels in about getting back a 1st, I can easily just pivot to a guy like Max Domi and get similar production for a lesser price.

Also gonna push back on his "crappy linemates" - at even strength his top 4 most common partners are Suzuki, Caufield, Anderson, & Dadonov. 2 of those are Montreal's core guys, one of those is a guy that I've been told time and time again is worth a 1st++, and one of those is admittedly terrible.

If he's not fetching a first, it makes more sense for Montreal to focus on re-signing him.

And Monahan has played just over a 5th of the season with Suzuki and Caufield, they usually don't play together.

I believe Jarnkrok is going to have the 2nd line LW spot.

One of the more reasonable posts....and trade value for the Leafs going for it. And certainly wouldn't mind adding a veteran Dman like Jensen. But right now, Holl is the Leafs best Dman, and he is now the 7th Dman?

So funny seeing a comment with "one of the more reasonable post" coming from another Leafs fan.
Most teams decline pretty quickly to be reasonably honest.

I'm trying not to let recent play affect my valuation of Holl, past couple of playoffs he's not performed, and is quite inconsistent - some stretches he looks like a legit shutdown top 4 D and sometimes he looks like, well, nothing close to that.

I think if you have Sandin/Lily/Holl competing against eachother to stay in the lineup you have options and maybe some better play from those guys.

Plus, I mean look at the injuries right now, I'm sure our 7th D will get game time in the playoffs. Holl as the 7th D makes any D core incredibly deep.

No retention maybe. Sean will fetch a 1st rd pick and a top prospect at the TDL.

holy... he will fetch neither of those things, that's a promise. Best case scenario is what I've offered imo, I could see it being even less. 2nd rounder and a B prospect for a middle 6 forward who was a 1st round pick cap dump ~25 games ago

re-sign a injury prone late 20 something player would not be wise, especially when you're trying to emerge from a rebuild. You don't want to lock yourself into something like that. Hughes took him thinking he could get the first and then flip him for whatever he can get at the TDL, no matter how big or how small the return, and let him walk if nobody wants him. Would be foolish to play it any other way, especially given the state of the Habs. You don't want to risk harming the cap possibilities of this young team by making the mistake of signing someone like that.

i mean, you can very clearly click that link that shows what lines Sean Monahan has played at 5v5. obviously he's bounced around the lineup and played with a plethora of linemates but i don't know how you can tell me i have my facts wrong when the numbers literally say that, to date, the line he has been a part of the most at 5v5 is with Suzuki & Caufield. will that change if he's no longer playing with them? obviously, yes, but the fact is that today, November 28th, 2022, that is the line he has spent the most 5v5 time with. i don't know how you're arguing against a black and white fact like this.

imagine getting paid a 1st to take a guy and then getting mad when someone offers a 2nd and a good prospect for him three months later

Lol and I thought i was overpaying a bit just to see the line up and shut the habs fans up...
