Description
I was flipping through Elite Prospects this morning and was shocked to see that most of the "future superstar" top 10 players are not playing great over the past 10 games. I'm not saying that they are playing terribly, but for This draft to be as amazing as people claim, shouldn't guys like Carlsson and Dvorsky be lighting it up in their respective leagues? Yes, I am aware European leagues are low-scoring, but whether playing in Europe or North America, it really feels like these guys all took a big stumble over the past 10 games.

I wanted to hear some other people's perceptions of what's going on, because tanking for one of these guys feels insane right now (beyond "The Big 3" I mean).

Slaf had 10 pts in 31 games last year playing against *similar* competition, and went 1st OA. A lot of these 17 year olds don't get a ton of icetime. In Dvorsky's case, his team is scoring 2.14 goals a game, so I wouldn't say his production is out of the norm, especially considering he's likely getting bottom 6 minutes. With Carlsson-meh...he was the king of the secondary assist during his *hot* start. Not surprising that it fell off. When you think of other guys that are currently producing in the CHL (ie. Yager, Benson, etc.), they're the guys that are getting an absolute boatload of minutes, as opposed to most Euro guys who absolutely aren't. I think Kakko is the most recent Euro 17 year old that I can remember that got anywhere close to top 6 minutes.

I really agree, but in all of their cases, they came sprinting out of the gate (including the Europeans) but they are not consistent through the marathon if the season. Only the Big 3 have been consistent.

Yager & Benson seem alright, but do we want to purposely lose in order to secure one of them, I'm not seeing the upside where they are definitely any team's #1 center of the future.

Happy to see Cameron Allen's stats recover a bit to be honest, because he really stumbled out of the gate and actually dropped out of the 1st round for a lot of scouts.

I wouldn't sleep on the European talent. They are playing against men and playing limited minutes. Those 12-15 minutes a night they might be getting if they are lucky are likely better than 18-21 minutes of top line CHL time. Lucas Raymond has 4 goals and 10 points in 33 games his draft year. 6 for 18 in 34 his draft +1 year.

All I know is Kent Hughes gave an interview 2 days ago and said he wants to obtain another 1st round pick as this year’s draft is deeper than previous years.

I mean yeah you want them to dominate but they can't all just put up ridiculous numbers. Sure maybe dvorsky or carlsson are a bit lower than expected you do have guys putting up crazy numbers that will jump up also. A guy like Will Smith it just torching the ushl.

People forget how tough these Euro leagues really are for younger guys. Teams are there to win their respective leagues, and don’t solely focus on development like a CHL league would. Most guys getting very limited time on ice. Your example of Raymond is all people need to know.

The most impressive thing to me throughout the start of the year regarding the draftees is what Fantilli is doing in the NCAA.

Honestly as a Detroit fan I am hoping for Fantilli over Bedard, too bad we have yet to move up in the draft.

Wings have made out very well with their drafting considering they haven’t moved up much

Very true, but it would be nice to move up in the draft for the very first time in franchise history.
