I just cant see the avs giving up their 2023 1st round pick for Toews.

I am not a fan of trading for him but he is a real possibility. However with his NMC, he will hand pick where he wants to go. Sakic and MacFarland have been really against trading 1st round picks in their 10 years as a management group. I cant see them moving the pick in one of the deepest drafts in a long time for a guy who would be a pure rental. And if Toews is only willing to waive for 1 team, then I really cant see the avs giving that asset up.

A 2024 1st had a better chance of being moved than the 2023.

I know avs fans get the rep that we think every draft pick and prospect is untouchable, but it's just not the case. We have no issues with their front office spending but over the years we kind of understand their tendencies

They are very patient when it comes to finding the trade and value that they are comfortable with. They really seemed to hold the 2023 1st round precious, it was mentioned last deadline they had no intentions on moving it. So gotta assume that still holds true today.

They will add at the deadline, but maybe wont be the splashy big price we assume they will do so they can defend their cup. Last deadline tapped out their futures a bit so need to be cautious

I just see Toews as such a perfect fit in COL, and he's playing well this year too on a terrible CHI team, should be even better on a good team. I think hawks would still entertain a deal with COL around the 2024 pick. Toews at 50%, we take back compher for cap. 2024 1st plus a sweetener since it's not the 2023 pick

That’s why I don’t think the avs will be aggressive on him. Moving compher hurts their roster going into the playoffs

Avs will set a price but don’t move heaven and earth to make toews fit

Exactly. COL has always made moves at the TDL but they didn’t move roster guys they use to do it. Compher gets a lot of hate here, but his ability to play up and down the line up at all 3 positions and play special teams is as indicative of Bednar’s trust in him as him playing 20minutes a game lately. More than anything COL needs to get healthy hopefully by mid Jan and see what a healthy lineup particularly Newhook with 2 legit top 6 guys. I mean he has been very good lately playing with guys like Kaut I’m sure they want to see what he does with the likes of Landeskog and Nichushkin.

Idk... I would love to have Cat back in CHI, but spending assets to bring him back just doesn't make sense to me. Especially if we aren't bringing back Kane to rekindle their chemistry. If he becomes a UFA and wants to come back to CHI, I would be ALL FOR bringing him back, though.

I think a Bedard lotto win could expedite things. He's just that good. Of course it's all speculation until we win a lottery though. I just see it is you add a generational talent in Bedard and get to pair him with the cat, plus 4 more first round poicks over the next years (or more with more trades), plus guys like Reichel, Comesso, Korchinski, Allan, etc who are highly touted draft picks not even here yet. I'm all for sticking to the plan of rebuild, but we might not be as far off as people think imo

You wouldn't put Debrincat in the scenario above because he "never left". Cat cancels himself out in this hypothetical. So it should be the way I explained it. At least thats how my mind is working it out.

We'll see how Commesso works out, if at all. Goalies are so dang difficult to assess. Allan was also considered a big reach at the time. It's cool to see he's with Korchinski and they get to play top line minutes together for Seattle.
