Relatively pointless trades for both CBJ and WPG. Given their status, CBJ has little to no use for Miller if it costs them a solid prospect, and Jets need Demelo more than they need Pearson.

There continues to be no interest whatsoever in Miller from the Jackets. At first it was in anticipation of what his contract extension would be, and now it's with the knowledge of what his contract extension is. Maybe if you retain 50% there might be interest.

The definition of “cap dump” has changed wildly in the flat cap, post-Covid world. It just doesn’t mean “here’s some picks to get the corpse of Andrew Ladd off my books” anymore. It has become “take what you can get for a good asset just to get some cap relief.” Columbus fans who are still not over the Bjorkstrand trade have been trying to explain this all summer, both to Vancouver fans and every Toronto fan who thinks Kerfoot is a hot commodity this rebuilding team will send them assets for.

There simply are not enough teams who can afford Miller’s extension cap hit, even if last season weren’t the outlier in his career, and none of the teams who could easily afford the cap have the appetite to give up cap-cheaper assets, futures, and picks for him that a player of his caliber might’ve fetched in 2019. The market is fundamentally different. Miller with that cap hit is effectively immovable in the current cap climate, and any trade to get him off Vancouver’s books so that other moves can be made is the definition of a cap dump.
