-The Islanders already invested a 1st rounder in an LD last summer - I can't see them dropping their next to into *another* LHD. This also feels like a crazy overpay - Chychrun is worth a 1st/good prospect/roster player at this point, not a pair of 1sts++.
-This package doesn't get you back multiple 1sts *and* a young LHD in Sandin. Ghost retained probably gets back a 2nd & a prospect, maybe a 1st if someone falls in love. Ingram is a waiver claim goalie putting up a .885 SV%/4.00 GAA in his first 6 starts - so not exactly building up demand so far. And Bjugstad is a solid bottom-6 guy that gets back a 3rd, tops, and isn't all that much more valuable than Engvall, in my opinion. This feels like the Leafs giving up back-to-back 1sts to save a couple bucks on the cap(not necessary in season) and downgrading their roster. Big pass.
-I don't think Nick Ritchie is gonna keep shooting 26.1% going forward, and that $2.5M cap hit ain't gonna fly in Florida. Ritchie's a guy you definitely have to retain on and even with him down to $1.25M you're probably only getting back a 3rd and a lottery ticket prospect.
-This is insanely bad for the Oilers. Fischer is a bottom 6 C and Joshua Brown is a 6th/7th D, and are the worst players in this trade. Smith & Klefbom aren't necessarily assets that Edmonton needs to get rid of - they're LTIR, and with Evander Kane out long-term, it's not even like they can dump these two guys and clear their LTIR and start accruing cap space - and if this is a deadline deal, it's even more useless. Barrie is probably overpaid for what he is but he's still a decent top 4 RHD who can be a QB on the power play; Puljujarvi is still young with great underlying numbers so you can ride him out a little longer to see if he finally puts it togther; Janmark, sure, he's been pretty mediocre but he's also only signed for this year and pretty much completely able to be buried in the AHL so not a huge need to move him. Nothing in this deal justifies giving up multiple 1sts and a 2nd for Edmonton.
-Man, I love Nick Schmaltz but this is overkill. CBJ is trending for a top-5 pick in an incredibly deep draft. Schmaltz is a high-end 2C who can pull of 1C if he has to. He's not worth a top-5 pick.
-Troy Stecher had 2 points in 16 GP for Detroit last year when they traded him for a 7th rounder. Since then, he's scored 2 points in 30 GP with the Kings and Coyotes, and is now apparently worth a 3rd & a 5th - to the team that traded him away less than a year ago.
-Strangely enough this one seems pretty fair. I think you only get the extra 4th if you retain for him, though - Tampa probably can't fit him at $1.55M but can make it work at $775K.
