Lol no one is paying a 1st and a 3rd for a rental. Any team that even remotely thought about it will look back at Florida's mistake.

Not to mention it's been a down year for him. Doesn't look as good.

*I can't stress how bad this is. To pay a 1st and a 3rd for a rental 4th dman is wild.

I disagreed with the other guy about the price for a rental D man, but it's much too steep of a price for a player that really isn't too much better than Holl himself, that's the reason why I believe this trade wouldn't happen, I see it more as Holl, a second and a prospect like Kral.

LOL what? Jensen is a top pair defensive defensemen, think he's 7th in xGAR among all defensemen the last 3 years. Holl is a bottom pairing guy. They aren't even close.

If Washington was to look at that Florida deal, I think they should look to get Gerasimyuk off of Florida instead of Noel or Denisenko. I think he could easily become the best goalie in the Caps system, I see him having much better upside than Gibson or Stevenson, and I think Florida could be persuaded with Knight already being their goalie of the future.

I can't see Edmonton moving their 1st round pick from last year, I think it would have to be a different prospect for the Oilers to consider.

Toronto trade is fine value for a Top 4 defenseman at $1.25 mil.

Why would TOR include a defenseman in a trade when their d-core is dropping like flies? They need to be adding right now without subtracting from the roster.

Assuming you added a 3rd to "take Holl", remove it and Holl and the deal is fine.

That's fair. I looked at it as dumping Holl, but I guess considering Muzzin is on LTIR for god knows how long, they really don't need to dump the 2M. Jensen at 50% retained for a first would be fair.

First of all, Jensen would probably be the best defenseman on the Leafs aside from Rielly, who just landed on LTIR. Secondly, it's a first for Jensen at 50% retained, and a third to dump Holl, which you could argue Toronto doesn't actually need to do right now. So drop Holl and the third from the trade, and I'd be happy doing Jensen at 50% for a first round pick.

Also, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about saying this is a down year for Jensen.

Precisely, there is plenty of money for TOR to spend that doesn't involve sending a contract back. At this point in time, I don't even think they need the retention on Jensen. But that could change.

Let's call it a day 2024 first for Jensen at 50%. The debate on his value without retention isn't entirely necessary.

Anyone that thinks Rielly is the Leafs best dman has not watched the Leafs. Brodie-Jenson would be a fine pair to throw down in a shut down role, but dmen as expiring players never get 1st Rd picks as a return. And the 50% retained doesn't mean anything. That's a 4th Rd pick. There's an established market for how much retention costs. Jensen is worth a 2nd, 4th and B prospect.

*Again, besides Florida who regrets the trade.

Doesn't look like it, but I don't watch them all the time and they have had injuries. From what I have seen, it's down from strong previous years.

-Hampus Lindholm for 1st/2nd/2nd+
-Ben Chiarot for a 1st/4th+
-Rasmus Ristolainen for a 1st+
-David Savard for a 1st/3rd+

All trades down in the past 2 years where a defenseman in the last year of his contract got traded for *at least* a 1st, sounds like we could talk about what the established market might actually be. Jensen fully retained would be cheaper than all of them (Savard was only cheaper because of double retention) and he's been the Caps best defender this year, by far. Not saying it's a slam dunk that he gets a 1st, but betting that strongly against it with multiple recent examples that the Caps can point to as comps is not a bet I'd want to put money behind.

All massive overpays. Even Savard was one, but I think that one is the best example of how this Jenson trade could work. Jensen is better, so I conceited that. It's a good example. Lindholm is with an extension. That was worked into the trade, not the same thing. But fair point on Savard.

Regardless of whether or not they're overpays, your statement that "dmen as expiring players never get 1st Rd picks as a return" is wrong. If the leafs don't want Jensen, someone else will and they will pay at least a first round pick. He's gotten better every year he's been with the Caps. The leafs can bounce in the first round again if they want to rely on half a defensive core and do nothing about it at the trade deadline.

Not getting Jenson is not the equivalent of a team doing nothing with their team. Caps not the only team in the league. Maybe relax a bit bud. Are you Jenson's agent?

Again I don't think anyone pays a 1st, but I can easily be wrong. I just read Klingberg as a rental might be a 1st+. That's insane. But if that's the market, then yeah Jensen at a 1st is fair. Rather have him. I just think it's more in line with the Manson trade last year. We'll see how it goes.
