As an outsider without an ax to grind (except maybe AGAINST the Sharks), it strikes me that Marner alone is worth more than that package.

But it's all moot, because you guys are NEVER trading him.

Trade 1 makes no sense for Leafs, trade 2 no sense for NJ, and trade 3 no sense for CHI.

Marner would probably make an overall better 1RD than Karlsson, the only drawback is Marner's shot isn't as good.

NJ is doing well so why make a change by substraction? Dahlstrom does nothing for them now.

Chicago isn't going to give up a 7th for a pending UFA of Holl's caliber.

Devils aren't selling from a position of weakness without a starting goalie coming back, no thank you.

CHI declines for obvious reasons. But getting a 4th for Holl might not be completely out of the question if Dubas can find the right need somewhere. But if it comes down to TOR desperately needing to move Holl's contract and they don't have any takers, CHI probably doesn't want him unless you are paying them to take him.

-Toronto declines this because Marner is more valuable than anything else coming back, but also San Jose wouldn't even propose it in the first place - they've got at least 2-3 years before they can dig out of the bad contracts on this roster, which means they're basically in the same spot whether they're paying Erik Karlsson $11.5M or Mitch Marner $10.9M - so why give up additional assets and retain close to $15M for a guy that, at best, puts you in that mushy middle where you're not really getting good picks but aren't a serious contender?

-Easiest pass of the day goes to this trade. Dahlstrom is hurt and might not play at all this season, and Ryan Graves is getting top 4 minutes on one of the best teams in the league right now. Why are the Devils doing this?

-Probably fair value for Holl, but not sure why a rebuilding team like Chicago would give up a pick in this year's draft for him - teams in the lottery don't usually spend assets on pending UFAs.

Terrible for SJ. They say no all day every day. No way they will be giving up their 1st round picks any time soon because they will be really early picks.

If they're moving EK65 out the door then it's not going to be for other top NHL talent it's going to be for prospects and picks + filler
