If we did move Severson at March 3rd deadline, we would have 22 games to fill RD. Say, 9 games go to Nemec (and he keeps ELC slide), Walsh gets ~6, and say Michigan makes it regionals but not frozen four, so Hughes arrives around April 1st and plays final 7 games.

So if we made playoffs, it would be...

Siegenthaler -- Hamilton
Graves -- Marino
Bahl/Smith -- whoever wins out between Nemec/Hughes/Walsh

Maybe its worth the gamble.

if we traded for Severnson i feel it would be after we traded Karlsson and we would opt to resign him

San Jose isn’t moving Timo for zero prospects and a rental. The whole flip a player at the deadline is the dumbest scapegoat for a bad trade offer. Tell me the last time someone actually did that to get another 1st round pick

TvR will replace Severson in this case. He is an excellent bottom four defensive defenseman

Okay, instead let's say San Jose is double retaining Severson for Ottawa and is getting two firsts and Boqvist, does that do it?

don't understand Meier to NJD. How are they going to pay for everyone next year? Wouldn't this mean they have to move Bratt?

I think any trades giving two 1sts for Meier works as a substitute if there are no prospects included, but trading 2 1sts is insane and I can't even remember that happening
but IMO SJ doesn't want NHL caliber players unless it's to sweeten things. If they are moving Meier they would be rebuilding on a longer timeframe and would want really good prospects and picks. Boqvist is young, but I put him into the sweetener category, not really something that makes sense for SJ to move Meier for. Severson is another that doesn't make sense.

I mean I don’t really see San Jose getting a 1st for retaining on someone. Boqvist is just a depth player and not much value to him. San Jose would be looking for a high end prospect.

The first is for Severson and is flipped as part of the Meier deal
