2023 first and Niemala is a good starting place. With 50% retention then maybe an extra second or third round pick and the Canucks will take a contract from you

You would have to take Kerfoot without question and that has value. Kerfoot, Niemela and a 1st for Horvat at 50% is a good trade.

Leafs easily decline, not getting Niemela for a rental

From the Canucks perspective, I don't see Kerfoot having much value, and not enough to retain salary on Horvat. We have too many 2nd-3rd line wingers already and he's not a good center. If he's part of the trade for cap reason, that's fine.

Not enough imo. If nick foligno gets a 1st and two 4ths then horvat should be a 1st and knies.

The 1st and Niemela is the payment for Horvat. There isn't many teams with cap space available to grab Horvat so in all likelihood you will take back cap. If that cap is a useful and valuable player like Kerfoot, that isn't a cap dump, it's an asset.

Kerfoot would do several things. You could flip him, or try to resign him and flip Garland. It's a chip to use in your rebuild. Not garbage.

I didn't say he was garbage, but I don't see him as a chip in our rebuild.

Ya I agree. Though I don't think the Leafs are a good trade partner for Horvat. Niemela hasn't been impressive this year and he's another undersized dman. Still a good prospect with good value but not sure it's the right fit for Van other than him being a RHD.

Canucks would probably have interest in Knies but it's highly unlikely he gets moved.

Because you don't want to. You want it to be easy and filled with major hauls for everyone whether they deserve it or not. You "don't want to do anyone favors" but you want everyone to cater to you. Funny how annoyed all you Canuck fans are because people don't bother to understand your needs but then ignore everyone else's situation. Compromise? Why would you do that when you can just dream of a world where you win every trade by a huge margin and everything breaks your way.

I don't see him as a chip in our rebuild because he's a UFA at the end of the season and you don't rebuild around UFA's.
It appears you want to tell me what I think and put words in my mouth. You wrote "don't want to do anyone favors" in quotes, did I say that? No, I didn't. It would seem that you are the one getting annoyed here, not me. I stated that I was willing to compromise and take back Kerfoots contract to make the cap work for Toronto.

So flip him somewhere else. Flip Garland who becomes redundant. Really apart from Petterson and Hughes, everyone should be moved if you can get some assets for them. Do a proper rebuild, Benning jumped the gun every July 1 and Alvin spending big on Mikheyev was a mistake as well. You need way more than you have. Sell everything
