Description
Not considering salary, who's the better player? Brett Ritchie or Josh Anderson?

I've been arguing about this with a Flames fan, who says Ritchie is as good as Anderson. I think he's crazy.

Again, don't forget. Don't consider the contract. Just the players abilities.

Definitely Josh Anderson.

Anderson is overrated by Habs fans and underrated by other fanbases.

Would love to see the updated versions of those. Wonder if Ritchie held that level because if so the Flames guy might have a point...

I mean.... Anderson, but like, Anderson is definitely closer to Ritchie that he to an actual top 6 power forward.

Yah that’s guy is out to lunch. Josh Anderson is 100% better than Ritchie. Ritchie will slow down I bet you. Just because he is having one good start to a season, doesn’t make him better than Anderson. Don’t worry about it man, everyone is biased towards their own players. That’s why in some respects it is good to get opinions from people that are not fans of the two teams.

This isn’t really fair or accurate at all @LIRIK

Nowhere did @Ledge_And_Dairy ever say Ritchie is as good or better than Anderson. He said CGY isn’t interested in taking on Anderson’s cap hit and contract and that Ritchie is Big, Fast and a Good Forechecker as well since you were pitching those as Anderson’s additional intangible values to command a 1st Rd Pick in Trade, even though his Scoring is less than would be desired for a guy making $5.5mil/yr

@SevenLeg said it Best “ Anderson is overrated by Habs fans and underrated by other fanbases.”

I think Anderson is overrated (Toffoli’s better) and not worth his contract, but that said, he is a very desired and rare commodity. It’s hard to find a 6ft 220lbs+ RW with Soft Hands, especially one available via Trade. BUF’s Alex Tuch is better but I doubt he’s made available. Anthony Mantha looks good on paper but has consistency and injury problems which Josh Anderson has dealt with as well and at 28 it usually isn’t sustainable or get much better for guys that play that style, just look at Lucic

I’d try Ritchie at 2RW in CGY, but he’s definitely not a long term solution or fit. He’s definitely not as gifted offensively as Anderson, but at just $750k, I’d rather go with Ritchie personally

We’re going to groom Adam Ruzicka to be a good power forward too but if I were to Trade for one, it’d be Luke Kunin who I think would be just as effective as Anderson, but at 1/2 the price. I’d prefer the younger Fabian Zetterlund but I don’t see him being made available either. Gambles would be Julien Gauthier or Nathan Bastian

Anderson is definitely the better player though when it comes to value per dollar Ritchie comes out ahead. But you can't really compare stats for a 2nd line player to those for a 4th player. Anderson is going up against much stiffer competition than Ritchie. Look at the competition and TOI stats on those player cards.

As for overrating / underrating Anderson most of that is Habs fans trying to get more than he's worth and fans of other teams trying to get him for less than he's worth. IOW it's just fans trying pull the wool over each other's eyes.

I agree with most of this. I am in bo way saying Ritchie is as good as Josh Anderson, and in fact have been quite clear that Anderson is a middle 6 player, whereas I very strongly feel Ritchie is a 4th liner. The argument was about the intangibles the 2 players provide. Neither of them has particularly good hockey IQ but they both serve similar roles.

He said this : Ritchie does the exact same think as Anderson and is about equally effective at 5v5 play. What does that say about Anderson if Ritchie is an AHLer?

It says Anderson is getting significantly more ice time and going up against the other team's top players a lot more than Ritchie is. Anderson is just as effective against other teams best players as Ritchie is against their depth players.

Also Ritchie has decent speed but Anderson has speed to burn.

Pretty sure he mean't they're both as good at 5v5, he never mentionned against who.

He compared both player saying if Ritchie is an AHLer, then Anderson is too. No way Anderson will ever play in the AHL. Ritchie could be sent down anytime if CGY add a top 6 forward.

I didn’t even want Ritchie on the Team and felt he was taking a spot from somebody else, but the way he has played this season, I think he deserves a few games at that 2RW spot more than Mang, Dube & Coleman, but not forever (unless of course he excels there then leave him)

Might just get those 3 to work harder knowing they were demoted in favour of a 4th liner. I understand traditional lines and roles, but I think talent and skills can be spread throughout the lineup from time to time, especially when things aren’t working as properly as they should or we’d like

I didn’t interpret it that way and so far this season, Ritchie has played just as well as Anderson, but there’s a reason why ones a $750-800k 4th liner and the others a $5.5mil 2nd/3rd liner who gets PP time

I mean @Ledge_And_Dairy isn’t just a casual fan here. He knows his hockey. You don’t get 15k likes by pushing poor opinions and falsities

Well that's just silly. You can't compare apples to oranges or a 2nd line player to a 4th line player and say they're the same.

I told you Ritchie was worth keeping around all along. He's a good 4th line player. As for playing him on the 2nd line maybe temporarily. As you know I've long maintained the Flames need a bit more size, grit and speed in the top 6, that's precisely why I like Anderson so much as a trade target. He brings all 3 and he can fight too which is going to make other teams think twice about abusing Calgary's most skilled players especially the smaller ones.

You’re a wise man Mox and that’s exactly why I’ve been pushing the idea of Ritchie up there with Huberdeau for a couple games. Makes WAY more sense than Lucic on the 2nd line

Not sure what happened to Ritchie last game but he didn’t return so hope he’s okay
