Description
Would look to Trade out a Pending UFA (most likely Toffoli) in the Off-Season to re-sign both Tarasenko & Barbashev should they be good fits.

Would still like another Veteran Shut Down Defensemen to share time with Michael Stone

For a pending UFA with an 8MM cap hit who wants off your team? Hard pass.

Why would Calgary trade this for a UFA who is going to give us 6 months of marginal productivity? I don't mind Barbashev, but Kyrou would be the only winger I want from St Louis

Would look to re-sign both Tarasenko and Barbashev by trading Toffoli (hopefully Coronato, Pelletier, Zary &/or Schwindt come up next season) or another Pending UFA (Backlund, Hanifin, Tanev, Zadorov) in the off-season

Tarasenko is a 0.80-1.00PPG+ 1RW and Barbashev has shown he can Produce Offensively but more importantly is Defensively Sound

I’m guessing it costs $6.5-7.5mil/yr for Tarasenko and $3.5-$5mil/yr for Barbashev. Hopefully sign them both for around $10-12mil/yr

Kylington is at home in Sweden? Dealing with personal issue. I read family issues near the beginning of the season. The organization clarified recently that it was personal issues not substance related, and they asked for respect of privacy.

Dude that’s a terrible deal for CGY and where/when has Tarasenko rescinded his Trade Request!?

Doesn’t matter, he’s a UFA that a) won’t likely re-sign in STL so they better get the best return they can for him and b) STL looks to be heading towards a rebuild, so it’d be best to Trade him for a Younger Up & Coming Star to compliment the Young C & RW STl just signed long-term

Taresenko is 30 years old. I think we have enough players past their prime signed to long term contracts. Unless you would prefer we look like San Jose in 2 years

Tank will be 31 in Dec, I don't believe he's anywhere close to past his prime. Russian Stars play for a long time, look at Ovechkin & Malkin, they're still producing.

Barbashev will be 27 in Dec and would be an ideal 3LW or 3C replacement for Backlund

I'm talking about signing BOTH for $10-12mil, not each like Karlsson got

Calgary needs young, good players on their ELC. We're stuck with Coleman at 4.9MM and all our cap space from Lucic has gone to Huby and Weegar extensions. If getting Taresenko was the goal, you could just sign him as a FA and trade mangiapane for a solid ELC player or futures to manage the cap. Very few players produce at a stable rate past 28, and even fewer increase their production. The bell curve doesn't lie. Calgary will have Huby, weegar, Kadri, (and likely Lindholm) all signed on the wrong side of 28. Statistically, adding Taresenko to that mix only makes matters worse and cripples any rebuild in the future (see San Jose). Given how terrible Calgary is at rebuilding, I'd rather we restock the cupboards than take on aging players like we did through the Sutter GM era.

Valid points, especially using Mang to bring in a Solid ELC, but I think Sutter & Treliving are focused on winning in the next 2-5 years and will deal with the decline later by playing ELC's and waiting for those NTC's to expire or having them agree to waive, so they can move them out in 5 years with the alternative being buyouts.

Hopefully Coronato signs with CGY and comes to play after his College season, but until then, we need a bona fide 1.00PPG+ Finisher and Tank is more realistic to me than P.Kane. Matthew Phillips deserves a look but I doubt he gets it under Sutter, then again, Ruzicka was finally given a shot in the Top-6 and look what he's done with it

Sutter likes his Veterans, so I always take that in to consideration as well. I do believe it's a Faster Young Man's Game and Forwards are at their Peak Physical Conditions between 24-28, but Stars are Smart and given the all the latest health & training advancements, they're able to take care of their bodies and many are producing till 35+, again Ovechkin, Malkin, Pavelski & Bergeron are all still killing it

Moving them out isn't as easy as it sounds and exposes us to the risk of giving more futures or retaining salary. Buyouts cost cap space too. I'd rather go for a player like Konecny if we are looking for a top RW. He fits the bill with Sutter and is still young.

I’d prefer Garland over Konecny myself, but neither is really anymore of a difference maker than Toffoli or Mangiapane
AFAIC and Dube could be close to putting up the same numbers.

I think Luke Kunin @2.75mil = 1/2 the price of Konecny would put good numbers in CGY as well. Wish we could acquire Fabina Zetterlund but I don’t see NJD letting him go.

I don’t see retaining salary or buyouts being an issue if/when we have ELC’s playing in the lineup. Also, these guys are Stars, which typically get Traded for Decent Picks & Prospects. They’d have to turn in to busts or cap dumps like James Neal, Milan Lucic or Loui Erickson’s before we’d have to give up assets to move them

Based on the projected cap increases over the next 7-8 years I don’t see these contracts looking nearly as bad in a couple few years, so won’t be anchor contracts. Besides in order for CGY to bring in Star Players, we seemingly have to offer more $$$ and Term, otherwise they choose nicer/warmer locations with lower income tax rates
