I'm sorry in advance. I have no idea what the value of Buch is but he fits what the Devils want and I have no idea what the vibes are out there on the future of the team

Buch isn't going anywhere, but if he did, your offer would likely be at or near the front of the line. It's certainly a respectable offer.

@capsfan2121 @mokumboi I switched it up slightly to Shakir instead of Holtz as Holtz felt like too much, but I tried to keep it to a higher-tier prospect.

Holtz would make the push for them to accept because buch is that important.
It would have to be an overpay to make them consider imo

Sure sure. I understand that Buch would likely require an overpay. Bummer. I really like him

I doubt the blues trade Buchnevich. IF they sell it will be ROR and Tarasenko

Yeah I tend to agree. But Fitz doesn't seem like the guy to swing on ROR or Tank unless we look like true contenders. But first year playoff teams seldom are.

2nd plus a late pick straight up. taking back Blackwood we would want more as he is purely a cap dump here.
weather you guys feel he has value or not the sharks wouldnt.

Kind of a bad contract imo. Should’ve gone for more term. Although it does allow the team to be flexible with him.

How likely is this, genuinely? Like the historical value for rental goalies isn't particularly hot, right?. Reimer is above average and consistent, but far from a world beater.

Why historical comps would Reimer draw?

Reimer has played exceptionally well over the last 2 years on a weak San Jose sharks team in front of a bad D. I know his numbers don't jump of the paper but neither has any other goalies over the last 5/6 years in SJ. you have to look at his goals saved above average to guage his true value. Teams with offense and poor D would be wise to look into him.
the other piece here is Reimer and the Sharks have zero issue keeping him here and even if he gets traded he is likely resigning here next summer anyways.
so if they cant get a 2nd then I expect them to just keep him. but to sweeten the deal 50% retention could be a possibility and a starter caliber vet goalie with playoff experience playing well for less than 1.5 mil ups his value over his recent comps.

Fleury got a 2nd that could have been a 1st. with conditions. but was a hit of 3.5 mil even after 50% retention.
Kuemper recieved 1st plus a prospect and a 3rd and he cost 3.5 mil
Vitek Vanecek was traded for a 2nd
Adin Hill for a 2nd plus a goalie prospect.

so there are fair comps for the price i mentioned.

So, I'm a big analytics guy and know how good Reimer is. In the last 4 years he's been between -2 and 7 goals saves above expected. Which is good, but it's not great.

None of those guys are good comparisons for him as none were TDL rentals (and none were 35 years old) except Fleury, who had won a Vezina just 2 years prior.

Kuemper was a full year, VV and Hill didn't have contracts.

Maybe I'm off, but a 35 year old good-not-great rental doesn't seem to be historically worth a 2nd round pick.

Yeah, I've thought about that. Maybe they could have tacked on a year, but it likely would not have granted any term discount because that would be like his age 30 UFA season. Hell, might have even raised the AAV a little. I'm happy enough we have him so cheap for more seasons to come, so it doesn't really bother me.

I think Fleury is very fair comparison, it’s not like he’s been great since the Vezina he won. Reimer had the same basic metrics last year and that sets the precedent. I guess it depends on how many teams are looking for a goalie at the deadline. I could think of a few off the top of my head : Devils, oilers, leafs, wild to start.

Fleury might be a comparison on raw numbers, but not even remotely close on reputation, accolades, pedigree, etc.

None of that matters, could say the same thing about Erik Karlsson but everyone will still bash him because it’s a what have you done for me lately league

Of course it matters and has always mattered. Players are traded for more than their true value on reputation and accolades all the time. Hell, look at the trade ideas on this board for Gibson, Kane, Toews, etc.

It shouldn't matter, and smart GMs will know that, but it /does/ matter.

I don't understand your EK65 point.
