Kapanen for Yamamoto would make the oilers worse imo.

I’d offer Yamamoto, Niemelan and Barrie to Seattle for Eberle, Soucy and Borgen. Im assuming Seattle would want additional draft capital, or a prospect like Reid Schaefer in the deal tho.

It absolutely could make them worse and I do believe that Yamo is very well-liked by his teammates, but his inability to generate offense (not just scoring; shooting, deft touch plays, positioning) is glaring and whatever adjustments he's making haven't been helping.

I choose Kapanen because he at least has a trait he can exploit that's well above average (speed) and seems willing to keep it simple and shoot. Further, he's well-positioned to slot into a 3rd line in a way that I don't think Yamo is.

As for your proposal, I wouldn't do that. Eberle doesn't address the bigger issues on the roster (defending).

So Campbell will suddenly start to preform better with a worse line up infront of him???

In time, yes. I'm of the mind that he'll bounceback regardless, though.

As for the belief that the roster is worse, I guess that depends largely upon how much one values 1.) Puljujarvi and Barrie and 2.) balance of skillsets on a roster.

Your title is a little misleading then, isn't it?

I can see how you'd interpret it that way. I'm of the mind that Campbell would bounceback to NHL levels of goaltending at some point regardless of any moves, but that doesn't necessitate that they'd "fine" in the sense that those goalies would be sufficient to contend with. The title is referring to my belief that, if the team can improve the quality of defenders in front of them, the goalies would be sufficient to contend. This is rooted from my belief that goalies are largely the product of the team in front of them. This is why I preferred the path of trading for a guy like Allen or Reimer in the offseason rather than committing the money and term they did to Campbell.

One path to achieving that aim involves swapping some of the more mistake prone or defensively-exploitable pieces for lower-variance players who can cover for the specific weaknesses or enhance the strengths of the team's core.

Kapanen solves nothing. I do like Murphy.
