i mean you realize there's *nothing* in there that Pittsburgh is going to want, right? You're giving them a pending UFA, an injury prone LHD, two middling-at-best-prospects, and the only really valuable thing in here, a 2023 1st.

I get that it's more of a daydreaming post, but at least try and make an offer that could potentially get accepted.

The UFA would be signed for the trade to happen and it gives the PENS a solid Center for the next 6 years min. Mailloux is projected to get 69 pts in 63 games and will be a Top pairing D, A Solid LHD who is now healthy and a solid prospect in Mysak. Not a bad haul for a player that would be 36yrs old playing for the HABS

There is no possible way that anything listed in this post would occur. I find myself having to watch my language when I’m looking at this post; I’ve seen a lot of awful stuff on this website but this may well be the most outrageous and outlandish.

Obviously they didn't sign Malkin & Letang to trade Crosby...

Let's say the deal was much richer than this and the Pens pulled the trigger, don't you think having Captain Canada in the same room might undermine Nick? Crosby is to Suzuki as Aragorn is to Boromir kinda thing?

Monahan has his fair share of major injuries he may have less good years left than Crosby. They are in a win now mode so the prospects that you gave aren't good enough for them to even consider, especially since Crosby is still very much elite.

Lemieux became the player he was only after playing with Gretzky for Team Canada. After that series, Lemieux said that it was the best thing for him playing with Gretzky which taught him how to see the play develop before it happened.

Crosby will only make Suzuki a better player

Not sure "seeing the play develop" is missing from Nick's game. He's literally thought of as one of the top 5 hockey brains playing the game right now.

EDIT: oh but I agree with you, Crosby makes everyone better

Especially with Crosby having a hand in getting at least Malkin to resign, they wouldn't let him out unless the return is to their liking.

Monahan is a middle-6 C at best, and I don't know if I'd sign a guy with his injury to a 6 year deal.

Mailloux is a 19 year old in the OHL, I would hope he would be putting up big numbers (also it's 12 points in 11 games, which now gives him 21 points in 27 OHL games going back to 2019)

Edmundson has missed significant time with back injuries over the past 2 seasons and will be 30 next year - and will be going to a team that has Marcus Pettersson, Jan Rutta, PO Joseph, & Ty Smith as guys who can play LD next season. Not exactly a position with a strong need for Edmundson.

Mysak has 3 goals and 0 assists in 36 career AHL games. Gonna need to see *something* at that level before I call him a prospect.

And trying to downplay it by saying he's a "a player that would be 36yrs old playing for the HABS" like he's not Sidney friggin' Crosby, still putting out a PPG+ pace at 35 years old, is an all time undersell. He's one of the greatest players in NHL history and is still performing as a no-doubt 1C, and you've offered a 1st rounder, two mediocre roster players, and two mediocre prospects.

I recognize this is all purely hypothetical because he's not getting traded, but if you wanted to do this deal I'd say you're giving up two of your 1sts (probably one of the 2023s & a 2024), Kirby Dach, and then another prospect in the B-tier (Justin Barron/Owen Beck-level players) to get a player like Crosby.

I like the way you pick what you want to share. Mailloux in 2019 had 68pts in 48 games and ONLY played 4 OHL games where he had 0 pts. NICE TRY!!!

I believe it is a fair trade, I don`t see any other team giving more than 4x 1st rd picks plus a 2nd. That is what the value this trade represents.

What about this option: Play in MTL during 2-3 years and after come back to Pittsburgh for 2-3 other seasons when he will hit the free agency in 2025 ?

That option means he will retire as a Penguins.

Mailloux had his 69 points in 48 GP in a Junior B league, as a 16 year old (when most future NHL players are typically playing Junior A - the OHL/WHL/QMJHL level.)

Take the blue-and-red glasses off. Calling this offer equivalent to four 1sts and a 2nd is insane - Monahan & Edmundson are not worth 1st rounders without retention (and I'd argue it's a stretch with retention.) Mailloux is not worth a 1st at this point. I would be surprised if any team offered up a 2nd rounder straight up for Jan Mysak at this point. The only asset in this package worth what you say it is, is the 2023 1st.

I just think it's funny that you're digging in your heels that yes, Pittsburgh would trade their franchise icon and arguably one of the top 5 players of all-time for a pile of beans.

I honestly think the more likely scenario is he plays out his useful years in Pittsburgh (however many he has left - dude is still chugging along) and does a "victory lap" type season in Montreal. Then signs a one-day contract with the Pens the day before he files the retirement paperwork.
