That is entirely unhelpful. But like if you were offered Pettersson (50% retained) straight up for him, you would say no? There is a price. It may be high but what is it?

He's one of the few players on roster with size and the physicality necessary to play against the other teams in the central division who are all much bigger than the Wild are. He was also 1/3 of the best shutdown line in hockey last year and which has predominantly been unable to play together yet this year, due to his being injured, which is a large reason why the team has struggled so far.

It's not a question about value, or if it's an overpay, it's a matter of need right now vs getting assets back but only because we're rebuilding type of scenario.

Right now, the team isn't rebuilding. The goal is to make the playoffs.

    He's not available.

Minnesota isn't trading greenway. Canucks fans, it will cost you something you don't like. He was resigned to 3 years deal to keep grief line together. It will be like Minnesota saying Hughes or Pettersson..so no

What if they sent Myers at 4m + Horvat (assuming they can resign him) like FromNunavut suggested? Probably would require Dumba going the other way too and some futures to balance things out.

    Or Horvat+Schenn.

Minnesota can't resign Horvat. Also, they aren't taking on Tyler Myers contract with their cap situation

    Possibly.

But the issue with Horvat is that he's strictly a rental for us. As we can't afford to resign him.

Gaining either one of Myers or Schenn on the back end certainly helps, as would Horvat. For sure. But then we're losing size up front.

It's a catch 22. Bottom line, we're ideally looking to add size on the back end but not lose what we little we already have in the process. We simply can't afford to lose him.

Honestly, I think they could if the cap goes up 4m, unless I didn't account for an extended player/a player that needs a major extension. Greenway+4m rise would cover Horvat's contract, the 2m increase in dead cap would be covered by the amount they have free. Dumba likely has to go though.

Yeah, it's pretty slim chance with Boldy's extensions, forgot he was up. Horvat would need to take a discount and Boldy a team friendly bridge.

The 2.5m of cap atm covers the 2m rise in dead cap.

Dumba 6m, Greenway's 3m, and Jost's 2m would need to go to the two, then the 4m cap rise (if it happens) would go to Dumba and Jost replacements.

Too many favorable events required to make it worth pursuing imo. I'm also guessing they want to sign Boldy at least for 6 years so it will be expensive.

Which is why Horvat is strictly a rental.

We simply can't afford to move Greenway at this juncture.
