The Mikheyev deal is a reasonable overpay really, and they did have the cap and should, perhaps they had the need too in terms of his pking ability. He's doing fine too. Miller got his market value but the signing is for so long and it's like he was always elite, so can expect the signing to age poorly sooner rather than later. The issue with that signing though, is that they didn't really need him even though he was and is an important part of the team, but they needed that RD help even more. They should have traded him to address that, the offers weren't great I'm sure but I think underselling on him would have been better especially since they added Kuzmenko and Mikheyev on the wings, and have Pettersen and Horvat down the middle.
Vegas has no space for Miller and his extension, they are currently operating over that cap via LTIR. They can't add 8m cap this year, and definitely won't be able to do it next year with Lehner's LTIR space coming off even if the cap goes up 4m or 5m.
