Lol not for Tanev he isn't. Tanev is (1) a way better and effective player, and (2) way more or a Sutter type player

Tanev was a beast last night against the Jets, such a steady dman, had some beauty blocked shots.

Josh Anderson is a royal joke, He's had like one 40 point season. He's basically a 30+ point guy making $5,500,000 for the next 5 years. Christopher Tanev and a 2024 2nd round pick is major overpay for Josh Freaking Anderson.

Seems like 95% of Anderson trades are from Habs fans not from fans from other teams that want to acquire him. You're right 5.5m for a third liner is excessive, not worth giving up assets or even worth in the lineup long term.

Is there any team paying positive value for Anderson?

No because a 30 point 3rd liner making 5 x $5,500,000, Is pretty much negative value.

I Agree Josh Anderson is overrated, but he is Very Rare and Highly Coveted by Teams for his Size, Strength, Grit, Speed, Right Shot and Scoring Ability.

Not very often that these guys come available, so he will cost a premium to acquire.

The montreal canadiens are not a charity organization despite all the charity work they do 'outside' of hockey

In his last year of his contract he might be good TDL addition, but GMs have to look long term. A third line 28 year winger making 5.5m for almost five full years,, is a cap luxury teams can't/don't want to afford.

CGY’d likely play Josh Anderson in their Top-6 and try to make him a 0.67-0.80PPG+ guy, but to your valid point, $5.5mil isn’t going to look near as bad on the 3rd line in the next few years if the Cap rises as has been rumoured and projected.

We’re already paying Backlund @ 5.35, Coleman @ 4.9 and Mang @ 5.8mil to play on the 3rd line this year so it is what it is.

If Anderson is worth a premium, what does Miles Wood return? He is faster, just as gritty, skilled and on easier contract (the ding on him has been health, but so far so good).

Not sure, other than not as much. Anderson is Taller, 30lbs heavier, has scored over 20 goals in a season and is a career -8, but more importantly he’s a Right Shot RW with Playoff Experience, having been to the Stanley Cup Finals and comes with a long-term contract which is definitely debatable as to whether it’s good in the short & long-run or a potential boat anchor of a deal

Miles Wood is definitely a good player, but his injury history and the fact he’s a career -58 (yes, I know the Devils we’re going through a rebuild but still) has to bring his value down. He’s also a UFA after this season and could soon demand more than $5.5mil/yr if he stays healthy and continues to play like he has so far this season

Both are similar size, speed guys…but have had injury issues, both drafted between 95-100 (4th round).

Last 82 games
Wood: 24g, 13a, 37pts (22-12-34 even strength)
Anderson: 23g, 15a, 38pts (21-14-35 even strength)

2022-23
Wood: 15gp, 6g, 3a, 9pts
Anderson: 13gp, 4g, 2a, 6pts

Contract
Wood: 1-year, $3.2 million
Anderson: 5-years, $5.5 million (with NTC protection)

They are very similar player, but on very different contracts. Josh Anderson would be more of an off-season maneuver.

Not too sure about that and in all honesty, I’m not a huge Josh Anderson fan. @MoxNix would be able to give a better opinion, but does Wood play RW or Fight!?

You’ve definitely got me intrigued by Wood, but he’s a standard sized Left Shot LW. I just don’t know what he’s really worth or what the Flames could offer the Devils for him that they’d really want or need

Maybe Dan Vladar, but then we’d need another Goalie in case Dustin Wolf isn’t quite ready to back up Markstrom

We definitely like Size, Speed & Grit in CGY. We could definitely use more Speed and someone who can protect and is willing to drive the puck to the Net

I really like the Devils. Lots of guys I’d want from there for sure

Me too but Miles Wood isn't one of them. Maybe for the bottom 6 if it doesn't take much to acquire him and he comes with 50% retention. He's not comparable to Josh Anderson that's for sure.
